    • in reply to: Why would a hacker bother to do this? #1330638

      dwsolo,
Two weeks ago I had about 10 sites hacked. They were all on the same server, and none were CMS sites. Also, they all had different passwords.
What this hacker did to my sites was to hijack different words on each site and link them to other sites… for example, one site had the sentence “family owned and operated”. They hijacked the word “family” and linked it to a site selling family condos.
It was very easy for me to restore everything, but I determined that my hosting company was at fault because all the sites were different and they all had secure passwords. The only commonality was that they were all on the same server.
I alerted my hosting company and of course they told me it was all my fault, but I know flags went up and it has never happened since.

    • in reply to: Step by step: How to safely test-drive Win8 #1325247

Everything worked fine up until figure 19 when I got the same black screen. After looking at all these posts I finally told the virtual machine to look for the setup disc on my desktop. Then it began the setup and at the very end told me to re-boot and re-insert the installation disc & re-start the upgrade. How in the world can I do that when it’s on my desktop?

    • in reply to: Smart configuration tricks for Win7 Explorer #1321554

Lincoln, regarding your tip about making the Windows Explorer open into the directory you want instead of the Library… I also use the Explorer constantly. To that end, insead of having an Icon to click, I have assigned the “thumb” button on my mouse to open the Explorer. After reading your article, I’ve discovered that you can configure the thumb button and add the path (exactly as you suggested in your article) right in the thumb button configuration and it works perfectly. Thanks for the great tip.

OK, thanks. I’ve only been looking for this because I would love to know just where I went to pick this up. I have been computing for over 30 years and I’ve only picked up a couple of viruses in all that time. Thank you for the help.

RetiredGeek, The malware listed on the Avira site is for JS/Blacole.psah. There is also a JS/Blacole.N and a JS/Blacole.O. Do you think these are all the same?

I tried the 3 solutions beginning with the new profile and ending with the registry change. Then I saw your post and went to the article and scrolled down to Here We Go and was going to try that, but my registry already contained that value, so there was nothing I could do with that suggestion.

      Hello,
Have you found a solution to this problem? I am using office XP on a new Windows 7 machine and am having the exact same problem. I also tried the 3 solutions and none worked. I am having no problems with passwords on any other programs, so this is definitely an Outlook problem and not a registry problem. If you find a solution, please forward that to me at RobertDianella@Dianella.com. Thank you. If I find a solution, I will return and let you know.
