thanks to both of you. Initially I am trying to secure a single database – as indivduals can have their own over which I have no control. But the ideas re overall security will be useful for my knowledge file!

thank you for this – all I had been able to gather so far was that I would need to buy a third party product! This seems like a much better answer – the best ones usually are very straight forward!

I think the problem was not that I did not have information in row 2 – I found column 11 which should have had a calculation in it was empty (it had a heading but no data beneath).

Added my formula and allseems to be well now. Thanks for your help – when trying a formula one has not tried before it is sometimes difficult to see the wood for the trees – thank you for confirming I was going in the right direction!!

      Cheers

In answer to your question it is being run on Windows 98. However, I am sorry to have bothered you all with this one – I have just discovered that our techinical guy had in fact put a password on this server – in mitigation one has never been put on any other training pc we have put together in the past! –

This problem did occur in the past with the previous server we set up, we could not resolve it so started again. When the same dialog box appeared I decided to ask for help – of course in this instance unnecessarily!!!!

      Thanks anyway

do you have a status date set in Project Information (on the projet menu)?

    • in reply to: BCWS & BCWP Calculation #1785479

I hope that you have solved this one by now. Did you set a status date for the Earned Value Table/Report (project menu, project information, enter a status date?) or did you have one already entered which was earlier than than the day on which the tasks you say showed zero were completed (eg average rainfall for the year on a monday could be different to the annual rainfall for the same year on Friday – thus the reading would record the situation on the status date picked?
      Just an idea really!

Fine if you are using project 2000 (ie can clear the baseline) or you have not saved one. I got the impression re-entering the dates is what was trying to be avoided. If they were not date constrainted (is contrainted good english????) then there would not be a problem. If however it is just the tasks you are seeking to retain then yes this would be the way forward.

As far as I know Not if you have put in date contraints. Ie happens on 31st march 2001 rather than the Friday following the previous event. Do they actually hapen on the same date as the previous year – ie can happen on a Saturday (probably a non working day) when they happened on a Friday last year?

Sorry didn’t see the earlier bit this relates to so hope I am not duplciating.

You are offered three options – screen, printer or to file. always take the file option and insert it into your destination document. If you use screen (colour snapshot) or printer ( B&W snapshot) you get a bit map paste – which is always humungous. the gif is much clearer as well.

If you save your project file as HTML and you edit the map you can put your picture at the top of the web page.

    • in reply to: BCWP #530764

You are certain you altered nothing relating to the task after you set the baseline and before you entered any actuals? Does the ACWP agree with the either figure? Did your costs alter? Did you set a status date? do the figures alter if you set another date?

However, project does have a mind of its own sometimes

I have never seen this before – however have you tried just selecting the data and copying and pasting it into a new workbook, then adding your formula again. Alternatively have you tried ctrl+end to see if excel thinks there is something else in later cells?

Is this data linked to any pivot tables in the same workbook? If each pivot table is created separately then this can cause balooning.

Finally, I really hope not, have you checked for viruses and also that their are no macros attached which you don’t know about?

thanks for this – both script and html methods are very handy. The html method will help me immediately because the powers that be have stipulated no scripts on the site!!! It think if they had their way we would not even use coloured fonts!!!

Re: whether to upgrade to xp or 2000 or not – though nothing to do with web servers. One thing which is radically different post 98 is the way you deal with databases I think 2000 is very much better, but if you are used to the way they are used (that is if you use them) this will be uphill!!

I have to say that I never got Win 98 PWS to load correctly – I used the FP 98 version and then added 2000 FP extensions and Active Server Pages both downloaded from microsoft!!!!
Also install PWS 1st and then get going with your upgrage – I have been unable to successfully install PWS (any variety) after 2000. I think 2000 is worth the effort, xp is still in its box until my new pc arrives (don’t want to go through the hassle of having to reregister it with MS!!)

I agree with the comments re attending a training course – you can also pick the trainer’s brains ( I also must delcase a vested interest as I am a trainer). Though my usual response is to direct them in this web sites direction!!!!)

thanks for this – the only trouble is my better half is motorcycle mad and it has been a real problem getting my pc back!!!!

This is exactly what I am looking for – will go on an explore of my own, but if you do come up with anything I would be grateful.

      Thanks
