In a bizarre way that makes sense since they ship the Outlook new ON Windows 10 and 11 now.  So they don’t need to offer it up to you since they want you to go to Outlook New.

Well, I installed the full online version and there was no Outlook. When I tried to find it by typing the name in the start menu nothing came up but web links. So, I had NO Outlook. That’s what got me looking.

Well, I’m at this moment putting a new PC in service and used the download option to install Office365. When it’s completed there’s no Outlook and there’s no Teams icon in the start menu although if you type teams in the start menu it does pop up.

I look a little closer on the Microsoft365 website and see that Outlook is no longer included. WT*!!!!

A little research and I find out that MS is really trying to steer everyone to the online version of Outlook. I also found out that when you go to the site and select your download option if you choose the offline installer option you will get the full retail version and you can install Outlook classic and Teams classic. Which is much more the way I want to go.
I recommend that if you like the offline version you should go to the page and download the offline installer (5.4MB *.img file) for archival purposes.

    • Well, time for a little humility…

This morning I woke up and decided I’d just start over. I don’t know what caused this, perhaps my many attempts at ‘Network Reset’ but I started with the host machine and found that the workgroup name had changed back to WORKGROUP. I changed that back to what it was supposed to be. Then I went through each machine on the network and verified that they  were all on private network settings with file and printer sharing enabled.

Rebooted them all and they all worked again.

I swear I checked them all over the last couple days but I must’ve missed the workgroup change. At any rate, everything’s working once again.

Thank you all for your assistance and patience.

    • SMB v1 is enabled on both machines. I tried all the tricks listed in the link I posted in the OP. I have to have SMB v1 to be able to connect to the USB share drive on my router. Both machines can access that just fine.

The IPs are assigned in the DHCP table in the router (.101 for my machine, .102 for the other).

I cannot get the credentials login prompt even when navigating directly to 192.168.1.102 although I can with other machines on the network.

    • On a couple machines (just noticed the same thing on one of my kid’s laptops, I’m just never asked for credentials. The icon is there but when you click on it you get the error message saying that the network path can’t be found. Even when I type in the IP address to the machine.

    • Nope, those look correct (even though I’m not sharing C: yet).

The issue is that while I can see the PC in the list I don’t even have access to log into it. In either direction.

    • in reply to: Where’s the Windows 10 upgrade icon? #1515016

That was the problem. Apparently when I installed Windows 7 my NIC drivers weren’t installed so the initial activation never happened. After I had installed the drivers I never revisited the activation tool. Once I activated Windows the problem was resolved. Thanks for the pointers.

Using autoruns I started disabling startup items.
I disabled the Lenovo Energy Management Utility and the Catalyst Control Center and the Start Menu items stopped repopulating.
It seems silly to me that one needs to disable whole programs in order to get rid of a minor inconvenience. I’ve never had this happen before in 20 years of building and configuring Windows machines.

      Nothing?

OK, I’m just trying to figure out why the game server program keeps crashing despite multiple attempts at reinstall. I thought perhaps I had stumbled on some sort of memory leak.
There’s not much else to look at other than the ISP or a malicious attack.

Understanding of course that this is not a game server support forum, I noticed something yesterday and today that piqued my interest.

I happened to be glancing at the game server while it was in console view instead of summary view. While I was thusly occupied, I also spotted a login attempt on an account just as the ‘flserver has encountered a problem’ message popped up. This login attempt did not show up in the debug log, the connect log, or the fl-server-errors log.

I wrote down the account name and went back into the event log and searched for that account. What to my wondering eye should appear but that a very large number of the crashes in the event viewer are associated with a certain behavior and in our case, the same behavior coming from 3 accounts and from 3 IP addresses.

The event log shows a login and within a second, at most two, a logout on the same account. Immediately thereafter the server crashes.

I’ve taken the three IP addresses and put them into FLAC’s (server management program) firewall, but, this will only work as long as these players don’t renew their IP address. I’ve also banned the accounts, but I think they’ll end up crashing the server before FLAC identifies them as being autobanned and prevents the connect.

This is the log from our server management software.
My server runs on the same modem and router as my personal PCs.

      Server crash immediately after.

So, any ideas whether or not there's anything within Windows that might cause this account resolution problem? I know very little to nothing about how network traffic is handled or interpreted by a NIC, Windows, modem, etc. All I know is that in the past I've plugged it all in and seemingly by magic, it usually works. (I also don't really understand electricity, but that doesn't stop me from turning on the lights at night). It looks to me like sometimes there's an error in resolving a network address which confuses the game software. I'm guessing that this issue is with Windows because it happens regardless of whether or not any game server management software is running, therefore it's not FLAC.

Either Windows is confused about incoming traffic identifiers, or Comcast is doing something (good luck getting them to admit that possibility…), or, it's something a player is doing deliberately.

My WAN IP is the same as the server which is 24.14.xxx.xxx, so this isn't even my WAN IP although the first number seems to indicate it might be my provider. I'm fairly certain that NOBODY has my MPID, so nobody should be able to login on my account. I can't be sure if that's me logging in at that time or not. I do know that about that time I was switching chars to make sure their timestamps were up to date, but each time I was logged in for more than just two seconds.

      HELP!!!
