Don’t know about the other things but for the not saving files problem… Look to see if your disk has Write Caching enabled. Since the system reboots when you lose the current files, it is possible that the cache has no time to clear to the disk…. You can do this by going to the device manager, click on disk drives, and look at the properties screen. You should see the write cache option there…

Tim, I tried this and indeed it does as you say on Windows XP Pro, except when you copy the indirect link say to the desktop. Then it creates a normal folder that opens an explorer window. Also, try simply dropping the original onto the big START button (Left drag & Drop). That puts a copy on the frequently used list. Now Right drag and copy to the Programs list. This creates the normal “modified” folder icon….

Boy, you guys are fast…. The one thing I never thought to do was edit one of the cells directly!

Thank you both very very much….

I have the same problem. I did a fresh install of Win XP Pro and when I restart some of the icons do not appear in the tray area. The Apps are running (according to task manager) but the icons do not appear. I played with the Hide/Don’t hide, etc settings but it still occurs. the only way I can reliably have all icons in the system tray is to “log off” and log on (NOT restart!)

I was afraid you were going to say that… I guess I’ll look into what it takes to dual boot..

      Thanks again…

Hi Ian, Thanks for the reply. I think you are right but, to clarify, the host system, Windows XP, does support the drive and shows it in device manager. The Veritas backup software that comes with XP supports and uses it, just not in the data format I need…. All I need is to “assign” a drive letter to it so I can share it. That’s what I can’t figure out….

I was hoping to avoid the dual boot (never needed it before) option. It complicates things…..

Hi, actually I installed to a newly formatted C drive using the XP Pro Upgrade. It ran from a bottable CD
and only asked to see the Win 98SE CD. After that, no problems at all….
