      Good one Steve!

    • in reply to: Conditional Formatting #1208733

The “GetFormula” is a range name. On sheet AnswerKey click on cell A11. Then access the menu Insert | Name | Define… then click on GetFormula in the drop down.
The range name is equal to the formula Get.Cell(6,Worksheet!A11).
So if the cell on Worksheet A11 is equal to “=max(a2:a10)” the result is true and the conditional format is applied.

      Hope this helps.

    • in reply to: Excel Workbook Window Problem #1183937

I am attaching a graphic of a problem I am having with a workbook that I have helped a gentlemen with several times over. This time I do not know what he has done, and find it laughable that I can’t figure this one out.

      1. The workbook window has been made very small (It is a rather large workbook)
      2. It is not password protected in any way
      3. The check boxes for everything to be visible are on (formula bar, scroll bars, headings etc…)
      4. Restore does nothing (and I only have access to the Excel Window itself anyway, not the control box for the workbook)
      5. There are no resizing handles that appear in any portion of the workbook to stretch it back out.
      6. I can’t get my hands on the title bar to drag it back out even after minimizing the ribbon etc…
      7. Full screen doesn’t help, (nor any other view I’ve tried)
      8. Tiling the windows doesn’t help (to try and get the title bar)
      9. What detail is that I can only scroll to column D on the left side of the worksheet. Trying to unhide A-C but can’t.
I’m insane looking at this spreadsheet. Any clues or keyboard shortcuts to get my hands on the title bar OR to get the sizing arrows around the window.

Did you check to see if there are macros in the workbook?

    • in reply to: Word 2003 Autotext -Sharing #1183875

We just moved to a new software version, there might be some teething problems. I’d start a thread in the Suggestion Box (formerly Lounge Matters) forum, so that the Admins knows about it.

Thank you very much Hans for all your help.

I think you’ll have to select the global template/add-in in the Insert | AutoText | AutoText… dialog once during a session, after that it will remain the default until you quit Word.

Thank you Hans. I will have them give it a try.
I used to get emails when someone replied to my posts. I have not gotten them this time. I looked at my profile but it seemed ok. Any ideas?

      Thanks Again!

AutoText entries can be stored in any template, not just Normal.dot.

You could create a template, and use the Organizer (from Tools | Templates and Add-ins…) to copy existing AutoText entries into the template.
Then save the template in a shared network folder, and let users point their Word startup folder to the shared folder. The template will act as an add-in: it will be loaded each time the user starts Word.

Or if you have a set of corporate document templates, you could copy the AutoText entries into those.

      Thanks Hans,
I can create a template that contains the Autotext entries and put it in a common network folder. How do I tell Word that any new entries should go there instead of Normal.dot?

    • in reply to: Complex lookup MidQuarter rate #1181025

I decided to combine the formulas so they could be copied down the rows.
Take a look at the attached workbook.

If the formulas work the way you want them to, you can copy them down the rows.

I may be way off – but its a shot.
Take a look at the attached workbook that uses VLOOKUP formulas.

Would you be able to use Auto Filter instead of the macro? The Auto Filter has options to Sort Ascending and Sort Descending.
      Just a thought.

Nice! Much better than Select Case.

Select Case might be easier than the multiple IF statements.

Copy the formula down a enough rows to cover the number of sheets in the workbook.

    • in reply to: Insert Blank Row (Excel 2003) #1135780

Formulas cannot insert (or delete) rows. VBA would be needed to get this done.

    • in reply to: Underlining Part of a Cell (2003) #1118828

      Steve,

      Good to know. Thanks

    • in reply to: Underlining Part of a Cell (2003) #1118819

Are you referring to the lack of underline for the spaces between words?
If so, you could replace each space (that you want to appear underlined) with _
Then the entire section is underlined.
