I assume that you have SR-1 and SR-2 installed. What happens if you open this doc with a later version of Word?

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought the advantage of Master documents was that different people could work on different sections simultaneously. If you are the only person working on this document, I don’t see the advantage.

Do a search for custom.dic. If you can’t find it, you will have to build a new one. If you find it and you cannot see it in Word, create a new one and paste the contents of the old one into the new one by editing the new one.

I don’t think it is possible to install SP-3 without installing SP1. The SP’s must be installed sequentially. I don’t understand the reference to modifying the registry. Word 2000 SP-1 mandates that you enter the number on the CD and that the call home feature is activated. This means that you will only get 50 uses of the program unless it is activated by Microsoft. Is this the registry change you referred to?

I think what you are telling me is that there is not the simple solution that I had hoped for. Right now your solution is beyond my knowledge to implement. This is not earth shattering. I will live with things as they are now.

Thank you for your effort. I hope that in a relatively short time my knowledge will catch up with your solution.

If you have different versions of the same document in the worgkroup location and the template location on your pc, Word will always use the one on the user’s pc rather than the one in the workgroup location. It does not matter which is the latest version. Be careful not to have templates with the same name in both locations.

Is the problem that the one of the margins is set closer to the edge of the paper than the selected printer will allow? An injet printer may not allow a small margin (i.e. less than approximately .5 inch) at the bottom of the page.

I don’t really know the answer, but to correct it you can highlight the area where you want the numbers to start over, right click and select restart numbering.
