Hold down “Windows key” (below Z on my keyboard) and hit F. Under More Advanced Options, make sure that first three options are checked. This should work.

Go to Start/Run and type in “winword.exe /a” without the quotes and with a space before the slash. If everything works properly follow the instructions below.

Do a search for normal.dot (it is in a hidden folder) and either delete or rename it. When you restart Word it will create a new copy. It should start right up. Uninstalling Word does not delete this file which may have become corrupted.

I suspect your problem is a corrupted normal.dot. Uninstalling Word leaves does not remove this file which is why that did not work. When you reinstall Word it sees the old normal.dot and does not overwrite it with a new uncorrupted version.

The previous response should solve your problem.

Here is a way to use many “international” characters in Word:

The + sign between keys means those two or three keys must be pressed at the same time.

Insert a section break before p3 and in the Header/Footer Toolbar and click the “Link to Previous” icon to break the link between sections.

I have Word 2003 and the form did not work as received. When I exited the design mode and protected the doc using the Forms toolbar, everything worked.

Sorry, I plead to too much egg nog. I didn’t read carefully enough. I am using Woprd 2003 and this reply refers to that version.

Select the text and then go to Format/Font and the “Text Effects” tab and select the effect you want.

If you select the cell (or cells) first and then hold down Alt while clicking on the right or left cell border, you can do things as in the past.

Do a search for *.lex and see what dictionaries are installed. The US English is mssp3en.lex.

How about searching for 2 or more consecutive returns (^p) and replace with 1 return.

Yes, you can do what you want but it requires VBA macros to be run as you exit the particular form field. See this url

    • in reply to: Picture bloat-again (2003) #986358

I don’t think this answers your basic question, but….

In Word 2003 you can bring up the picture toolbar and see a new icon called “Compress Picture”. This will reduce the size of the picture by deleting areas that have been cropped (but still stored in Word) and offer to reduce the quality of the picture (or all pictures in the doc). I have one doc that was reduced in size by about 30%.

Yes, if there are no blank fields. If the value is zero you can not leave the field blank. Press F1 and type “perform calculations in a table” for more info.
