Most surfers could/would avoid going to the site that contained the malware if they were using WOT or like service. It is hard not to notice the red circle!

It seems likely that you have a wireless problem or two.
      1. Do you have the IP address set to automatic in the wireless connection?
      2. Have you set MAC filtering on the router – if so turn it off.
      3. Have you tried the lappy on another wireless connection?

      cheers, Paul

Thank you for the reply! I’m sure the default router settings would have: 1) yes and 2) no, and as I said all the other laptops (other visiting siblings and mine) worked fine. Ironic that my daughter’s (who resides there) laptop is the one with the problem.

It’s a (recently – caused by updates?) recognised problem with low RAM XP and Windows/Microsoft auto update settings.

The recommended method of dealing with it (until MS make a real fix) is to ‘toggle’ the Auto update feature back to ‘Windows Update’ from ‘Microsoft Update’.

I don’t have XP here right now, go to Windows Updates and check the settings or advanced settings and make sure you are only looking for Windows Updates. (Maybe a reboot is needed to trigger the change?).

      Thank You!
