      Thanks for the reply.
WOW! I finally clicked on everything I could think of, and it runed out to be something connected with
my photo on the desktop.named “php Thumb” A picture of a Lambroghini with it’s doors in the up
position. Gorgeious. Unfortunately, I decided to delete it to see what would happen, the white rectangle went with it!!
Thanks to you, we finally got rid of the big white blob. Appreciate it very much.

    • in reply to: Export/Import vs Copy #1254836

I have YeahWrite on my computer, and ran into a similar problem in the past.
I hope you didn’t make the same mistake, but what I found out (too late) is
that what I actually copied and pasted to the new computer was only the
ICON, or shortcut to the program, not the actual files.

Good Luck in reviving the info.

    • in reply to: Uninstall problems #1247514

      Thanks for the reply.
I looked in C:Program Files and coulen’t find any sign of “tinyzip”.
Why do programs like this refuse to uninstall? That’s what
      makes me suspicious.

    • in reply to: System Restore not working #1246699

When I had this problem, I was told there was a “worm” or trojan horse going around, and to go to BLEEPING COMPUTER
where there was a solution for it. Hope the answer is still there for you. Good luck

    • in reply to: Search is useless #1243725

I downloaded Search Everything, and it’s amazing!!! I barely got the file name typed, and there it was.
If I were Windows, I would pay this guy a million bucks and hire him in a second!
Thanks a lot for the great little program.

    • in reply to: What-In-Startup Analysis please? #1239320

I agree about the startup nonsense. I was told by a friend to try it, and by eliminating all of them, then seeing if things
worked or not………..I couldn’t tell the difference in any of the responses. If you notice, you have the option of
disabling them all……….Try it yourself. It worked for me. When you click on a program, it starts whether it was
already running in the background or not.

    • in reply to: DVD RW Drive #1232062

I have the identical problem, and was thinking of buying a new drive. You just saved me from that – thank you.
I also had Roxio before Windows included it, and notes that it is still a Roxio program.
Someone told me that I was possibly trying to copy “protected” material, but the same CD that I couldn’t
copy was done on another machine with XP on it, so the mystery continues.

If you get a reply, please put it up so we can get some good info, OK?

    • in reply to: Windows Media Player #1212418

START / CONTROL PANEL / ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS / WINDOWS COMPONENTS…………..It will bring the screen of Windows items up, then remove what you don’t want..

    • in reply to: Startup programs- ok to delete Desktop.ini and #1212195

I got so fed up with all the stuff that started on my XP home, I got crazy and “disable all” in the startup (msconfig) screen.
The only ” bad” result was some pictures in my Photoshop program disappeared from the My Documents Pictures files.
I went back to Photoshop, retrieved the files, made new folders, and put them back in the Pictures section of My Documents.
I got nervous about losing other files, so relented and went back to starting only the Run32.dll part of the start up, and
so far, it looks like things have gotten back to normal.

The good thing about this msconfig screen is that you can easily undo whatever you do by going back and changing what
you want to start up, and it will all come back. So, I suggest you get brave, and give it a try.

    • in reply to: CD drive recognition problems #1211863

hanks to all who answered. Just as mysteriously it started, it has stopped. I’m seriously considering
buy a new drive, since this one is getting “old” (years), but it never gave me a problem or a hint
of a problem when it started acting up. I finally got the DVD drive to copy the files, although
it kept identifying the files as music, which was a pain. Thanks again for the ideas.

    • in reply to: Windows XP SP3 erro #1211861

The same thing happened to me. I downloaded the latest Adobe 9.3, installed it on my XP home machine, and
got the message” Your computer needs either 8 or 9 Adobe to view PDF files.” This was while Adobe 9.3 already installed.
I just reinstalled XP from a viral crash last week, re-installed my Avast anti-virus, and thought
my machine was clear, but now, I’m beginning to wornder…………Maybe Adobe is infected???

    • in reply to: Road Block Windows installer question #1210414

Go to control panel, and look for Printers and Faxes (I think).
Go there, and you should find a generic printer that XP has built in, and a
      place to “add a printer”.
Maybe using this wizard will clear the way?? Good luck

    • in reply to: cluttered desktop #1210068

Icons can be compared to light switches……..You can have as many as you want, as long as you don’t have them ALL on at the same time.

    • in reply to: CD drive recognition problems #1209376

Although I have never formatted a CD in the past, and have made many CDs of files, photos, etc., I’m willing to give it a try.
Now, how do you format a CD???
If it helps, this is a home XP computer with DVD and CD drives.

    • in reply to: HTML problem #1194941

I’m sorry it took so long to reply. I “lost” the Forums when they made the changes last year.
With a system restore, the HTML problem went away.
As for what tool bars and what restore……..these are the standard parts of XP.
      Again thanks for the reply.
