    • Sorry I wasn’t clear with the post let me start over, before I learned of MSE I was using Kaspersky on my Win7 machine. I uninstalled Kaspersky with Revo Uninstaller and installed MSE. It’s been awhile since I did this, suddenly the action center says MSE needs to be turned on and did so, but now the message is there every time the computer is first fired up. I am set up as the administrator, I thought that meant I am the owner, am I missing something, please advise.

    • in reply to: Practical for home user to have Virtual Machine? #1310404

If you only have one or two systems and they aren’t tricked out with 4 or more cores and at least 4 gigs of RAM, etc. etc., and are willing to put up with the performance hit if you can’t move to a SSD…not terribly practical.

In my situation of running several systems that can handle a VM all the time and doing everything needed to get performance out of a VM…oh my, some tremendous advantages in the form of VM replication to other systems, every copy is a backup so no imaging required, greater system resource utilization, flexibility to never need dual or triple boot (just use the OS you want when you want). Those are four of the biggies I can think of right off the top. 😎

Thank you, that’s the answer, I have one system and was wondering if it would be a load on the computer even with a dual core, 3g ram.

It all depends on what the home user wants to do.

you’re right, the only reason I can of is to use as another machine for trying new apps, thanks for your reply

    • in reply to: Tcp/ip #1307742

Port 80 is indeed the standard port that web servers use to serve up http requests.

To check if Port 80 active do the following:

Open a command prompt and type “netstat -anop TCP” without the quotes.

This will list all the open TCP ports on your system. There will probably be lots, but don’t worry, many are used by Windows or by other software to communicate to other modules. Scroll up the list, looking at the second column on the left. You are looking for an IP address ending in :80 (the TCP/IP port number). If you find that, port 80 is open and you see anything other than 0.0.0.0 to the right of the port 80 entry, something or somebody is connected to it.

It is very rare for residential systems to open it and in almost every circumstance requires manual actions to do so – you would almost certainly know if you had opened it.

Thank you, I didn’t see anything you mentioned, so I assume I’m ok. I don’t know how reliable that test is.

No more than what is listed at An update is available the improves the homepage category functionality for Windows Live Toolbar, MSN Toolbar, and Bing Bar. From the article:

“In an Internet browser, you specify a homepage that is not a fully qualified
URL. However, Windows Live Toolbar, MSN Toolbar, or Bing Bar may not categorize
your homepage correctly. Therefore, the homepage reporting may be generated
incorrectly for users who select the Help improve our
      services
option when they install these toolbars.”

I don’t use these products, no need for it, thanks for the replies

If you have a Hotmail, Windows Live, or MSN email account you can save the PPT to skydrive and use the Powerpoint Office Web App to view the PPT file.

Or at a minimum you need the Powerpoint Viewer.

      Joe

I didn’t want to download the viewer because I’ll get office updates, I don’t use office. I use ThunderBird mail client
