      Thanks Sam
However, have some questions because I’m not fully understanding your example:

How does .Range know which sheet? Cell B1299 referred to is on a different sheet than Extra Notes.

The ExtraPage, ExtraComments and ExtraCollateral may not all be true — they are check boxes. Basically, we are wanting it to say that IF any of those boxes are checked OR if there is data in cell B1299, THEN we want it to print the extra notes (sheet).

      Thanks Alan & Tony

We finally got it to work — it didn’t originally work when we re-formatted as a text string. but after monkeying around with it awhile, we finally got it to show the numbers properly. As you said, as far as I know they are not going to need to sort or search by this field in this particular case, but I wanted the information for when it comes up again.

Thanks Jeff! That worked absolutely great — exactly as you said it would. I didn’t realize fully all the possible features of rules because I had never tried on that complex before. Now I’m anxious to see what else it can do!

      LC –
Well, that is what we though at first, as well, and converted the formats to text, however, when we did that, putting in numbers over 15 digits long Excel would convert them to scientific notation
(123456789101112 +16) instead of leaving them as digits.
When I try it on my Excel 2000 or Excel 2002 boxes, I don’t have these problems. It is just strange

Darryl — I’m playing with this file of yours a bit, and see your problem. The only thing I’ve found so far that works is putting my insertion point at whatever point in that last graph (say, a couple lines up from the end) and manually putting in a page break.

I guess if this was my document, I would adjust the margins when a paragraph is that close to fitting on one page. But I know you are trying to help others, who may not have that flexibility.

I will keep working with it and we will see what we can come up with

      Adam
That worked perfectly! THANK YOU! It didn’t matter Where in the cell the text string was located — so your solution worked great.

I have not worked much with the IS functions before, so I will research this ISERR for future use!

    • Just to clarify — how are you attaching your appointment to the email. Are you in the appointment and choosing Actions – Forward (which brings up the mail window and attachs the appointment?)?? How does it look on your side before you send — does it appear to be a proper appointment attachment.

    • in reply to: Print Layout View problem (Word XP) #575796

Are you looking at it in print layout with the text boundaries turned on? (which show you exactly where the margins on in relation to the text).????

    • in reply to: Mail flags (Outlook 2000) #575235

Amiee — follow the thread of discussion after this post:

Flag for Follow Up reminder does not always work. (2000)
Post: 81515 (I don’t know how to put it here as a link)

But basically, what it says is that our Microsoft buddies wrote it so that flags ONLY fire from the Inbox — once you move a message to a different folder, the reminders for flags will not fire. The workaround is to make the email a “task” and put the reminder on the task.

NEVER MIND – found my answer (I had searched the forum for “flag”, but found the answer when I searched for “reminder”.) You have answered this one before!

Now — is there a way to turn reminders on as default for any new appointment or task (without having to open the whole appointment window and turn it on each time?)

    • MJ — yes, I know that was non-standard. I only tried that after the normal tools-options-calendar options – add holidays didn’t work when we tired it originally!

For all the pre-Outlook 2002 users in the building, I just pushed out a new outlook.txt file for them to use in place of their current, old file. Found one that goes through 2006 here:

      http://copernico.mty.itesm.mx/~tempo/juliodocs/OUTLOOK.TXT

I don’t know why my outlook.hol file in XP didn’t run for me through the standard method. I’m on WIndows 2000 instead of WinXP, but that shouldn’t make a difference.

    • Okay, this is strange (why does Microsoft do this?)

I wanted to try out what MJ said on my machine before referring it to anyone else. I have XP(2002) on mine (unlike most of the company, which is running Outlook 98). I had previously found the outlook.hol file, running it from the file did nothing. I had been unable to get 2002 holidays in my XP as well, just like those in the company running 98.

So after MJ’s post, I split window — Outllook 2002 on one side, Explorer on the other directed to the path of outlook.hol. I dragged & dropped outlook.hol from it’s location directly onto my calendar icon in Outlook. Then from inside Calendar, I re-ran outlook.hol file, and Eureka! my holidays appeared.

This sure seems to be a lot of steps for something that should have just automatically happened when I did the upgrade.

    • Glad you had brought this subject up in order to give me a CLUE as to why no one in our company was having any luck with our calendars showing holidays for 2002. However, we are running a variety of versions of Outlook — from 98 to 2002 (XP) and we have no holidays coming up. Now we need to find a way of updating 1000 machines with a new version of outlook.txt??? Why does this file not update when you upgrade?

    • in reply to: HELP! with Outlook 2000 Core MOUS Exam (2000) #545873

      Sean,
I’m SO glad to hear you finally made it through! I think the original testing center should give you a refund for not having their test set up right — I thought it sounded pretty flaky from the way you intially described it. What a great score on the PowerPoint too! Does this give you your MASTER? What type of job do you have that you were required your MOUS certification before this week?

    • in reply to: HELP! with Outlook 2000 Core MOUS Exam (2000) #545149

You’re taxing my memory, S.O. — It has been several months since I took the test. I used to work at a place that administered the test, so I had to be one of the first ones to take it when it came out, in order to make sure the system was working properly.

I’m also wondering if your testing center has it set up correctly, because it they don’t have the Outlook test set up just right, some of the references they give you in the test won’t work (such as the names they mention won’t be in the address book, etc).

I think you have the task problem right. Choose new task, write in the task, and on the new task window (before you save & close it) go to Actions on the menu bar and assign the task. Miller should be there if they have it set up right.

The forwarding a contact they definately want you to do it one of two ways. You can open an email (as you said), and attach it as an object. Or, I believe, you go into your contacts area itself, select the contact record (not open it, just select it) and then go up to Actions and just choose “forward” (not forward as vcard) and it will bring up a mail window for you to address. Perhaps they are wanting you to use the Actions on the menu bar instead of the right click. I find that MOUS exams don’t love our right-click options that we all use in daily life.

The year at a glance — I remember that one. When you are in Month view (actually, you can be in ANY calendar view) go clear to the right edge of your calendar screen until your mouse turns to an east/west double arrow. Drag the window back toward the left and it will show you a small month calendar. This you can adjust the left side and bottom edges in order to be able to see the entire year on. Practice that one first so you understand what I mean.

I’m not sure of your question about the sort fields in the rules wizard, because the rules change from inbox to tasks, etc.

I did think the Outlook test was strange in that it was the only one that had multiple choice questions interspersed with action questions — none of the other Office tests do that.

I have a friend at work here who took it just within the last month. I will see how much she remembers about it and let you know more.
