Are the graphics a link to a site? (You can right-click and “view source” on an email, and see if the graphics are embedded using an html hyperlink to an online graphic). I don’t know your work situation, but it is possible if the graphics are links, those links might be blocked by some internet firewall settings.

Well thanks, Joe! That’s a very useable workaround, and I tested it.

I wonder if that means it has something to do with how deeply buried the linked public folder is in the public folder directory structure. But I guess since it worked in 2003, that shouldn’t be the case.

There seems to be only one department in our company who is intent on using this Outlook Today view and shortcut (for most everyone else, I just add the folders to their Favorites List in the Mail view). So I will work with training them on how to add it to favorites and link it from there, and that should keep them happy for the time being

Exchange Server 2003. Service Pack 2.

Okay – I’m going to attach a WORD document with screen shots to explain what I’m trying to say, and see if that helps.

    • in reply to: Chart printing bug (Excel 2007) #1096398

Trying to determine that now. The user has always used it from the *xlw view, and he thinks he created the chart inside this *.xlw view, and has no idea which xls sheets are linked to the workspace.

And when I try going to data- connection – it isn’t showing any links to allow me to determine which worksheets are being pulled into this workspace view.

that’s pretty cool, John (and Joe!) Those are both great ideas!

Ah — you know I ran across that KB article when I was researching this, but now that I read it over again from your link, I realize I missed the point.

I had simply dismissed it with frustration when it said
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem
and thought “that isn’t very helpful”.

But now I see in the very first paragraph it says
You exit Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 while e-mail attachments are open that are from e-mail messages that are in a secure Outlook folder.
And I’ll bet that is what these users are doing. They are opening their attachments (Excel sheets or Word docs or whatever) and leaving them open even when closing the original message or Outlook, and that is causing those temp files to permanently remain.

In which case, I doubt I can teach our 1800+ users to quit doing that. brickwall

Yes, it is just very puzzling to me as to why Microsoft designed it in this way — to make it so difficult for an average user to know where that folder is or how to access or clean it out. (Most average users we don’t want messing with the regedit file).

And, as you say, when a user deletes their Temp Internet Files through their web browser settings, it doesn’t even touch the TempOutlookSecure folder.

There isn’t a lot of logic in that.

    • in reply to: Pesky Outlook Secure Temp Folder (Outlook 2003/all) #1073771

Well, now Joe, that makes perfect sense (that the limit is set by our limits of temporary internet files). Don’t know why I didn’t realize that.

However it is still puzzling why those files that are supposed to “go away” once the user closes the attachment aren’t doing so. I can see that happening if it crashes, but when we are talking about several hundred, or thousands, of items in the folder, I think we would be hearing about it if it crashed that often.

      thanks

I tried re-creating your problem in my Outlook 2007, but don’t seem to get it to do that for me. Was just curious.

Obviously, you just need to type shorter emails! smile

How big is the window you are typing your messages in? Are you using a full screen window or about half screen? Just curious.

Good morning Hans! (or evening, or night, whichever time of day it is for you currently).

Okay, so it DOES take add-on stuff. Good to know.

I figured it anyone would know a way, it would be someone here! bravo

      Thanks!

LOL — And the other rule is — that any time you post something that complains about a misspelling, you will, yourself, misspell something in your post. (like Outlook in the title)

Hmmmm… Well, okay. I had looked on those google groups discussion list, but only found others with the same problem.

So basically this is saying it CAN’T be done in default view? You have to create a custom view in order to move that column?

    • in reply to: Word in IE frame (Excel2003/IE6.0) #1038831

( this post has been editted because I realized I showed a WORD document in the I.E. frame, not an Excel worksheet. We have had this problem with both, and it was hectic when I posted this). My apologies.

Not sure if this is an I.E. question or what –

So what controls which Office toolbars appear when a worksheet or document appears within an I.E. web frame?
We are having trouble with it only showing the Reviewing toolbar by default. We can right click in the toolbar area and choose to open the standard bar (for the printing icon), but we want the standard toolbar to appear by default, and not the reviewing.
I know there are other ways around this – (make worksheet open in new frame, save target as, etc.) but that’s not they way they want it done. They want it in the frame, but with the Excel standard toolbar at top.
I TRIED to attach a screen shot so you can see what I mean, but it says the file is too large.
