AMEN, Woody. I did as you suggested and went online to hotmail page and opted out of all information sharing. It took me over half an hour to go thru all the steps. Lots of permissions were set to “everyone” and I didn’t even know that there was that Social Network Service offered by hotmail. Thank you for keeping us safe!!!!!!

Sorry, I don’t understand: what fact didn’t I get straight?

Windows Live has, no doubt, been working this way for years. Yes, I know it’s Wave 3 (what most of us would call “version 3”). I also know that Wave 4 is coming RSN. I don’t have any problem with Live Spaces spreading the social networking shtick.

What I’d never encountered before was the blatant scraping, and inaccurate mashing, of data being doled out to people when they log on to Hotmail. I don’t know when that change happened, and I would be grateful if you could fill me in.

As far as it being a great service… well, OK, different strokes for different folks, I guess. But it’d sure be nice if Microsoft would ask me before they started splashing inaccurate information about me on other peoples’ Hotmail logon pages.

Tried to download the malwarebytes.org program (three times) but it says that the installation files are corrupted. I clicked on the link two posts up and got to the malwarebytes website and then when I clicked the download button I was sent to Cnet. Any other place to get that program?

Can’t help ya but am interested in hearing how your problem gets solved. I too have a problem with some of my programs closing and see one thru another as it closes. My computer runs soooooo slow sometimes and then I get the virtual memory low warning sometimes. Would love to buy a new computer but in this economy and having been laid off several months ago I must keep this one alive for as long as possible. About a year or so ago I paid for the reimage fix and it worked for awhile but things keep going from slow to slower. I have tried taking a lot of the games off and putting them on an external drive hoping that would help but to no avail. I will keep watching here to see if your problem gets solved and maybe mine will too.

    • in reply to: Signs of laptop instability?? #1196124

I too have times when my computer will not respond. I have found (using IObit’s SmartRam) that it is because I have become very low on RAM. I run WindowsXP Home Edition SP3. When I run the task manager I find that svchost.exe is running multiple times or that MSE is doing some sort of scan. I have stopped all but 3 startup items but still seem to have the same problem. I too would like to know if this is a sign of instabliity with my computer. My laptop is 4 years old and I cannot afford to replace it. If it was a PC I would just take it apart and clean it but I have been advised that laptops should not be worked on by the user unless you know what the heck you are doing. Have you had any luck fixing your system? HELP!!!!!!
