    • Thanks guys, I’ve not tried all those things et, it sounds like I need to set aside a fair chunk of time, and anyway:

      1) It works fine from the “Try” option, no problems at all, so I did an install following martynjkp’s suggestion, and

2)The pc won’t boot up at all!

    • For infromation, I’ve tried Mint and have a similar, though not identical problem.

I already tried the Ubuntu forums with no response.

      Okay, thanks guys 🙂

      Ok thanks.

I think it’s a bit late for that though, as I’ve installed the OS now.

I’ve done a complete reinstall, but I still have the same problem. For example, if I open the Open Office spreadsheet application and type some numbers in a cell, as soon as I press the “ENTER” key, I get a blank white screen, with vertical lines on it.

It does seem like it’s something to do with the “ENTER” key, as if I use the arrow keys to move to another cell it doesn’t happen.

Maybe I should try a different version of Linux?

I’m not sureI understand the relevance of all of that, sorry. I’m not very technically minded I’m afraid.

It doesn’t have a USB port so clearly I can’t run a utility from e.g. a memory stick, nor can I attach it directly to my PC.

The network recognises it okay, and I can read/write from/to it with no problems. I guess I just don’t understand why the restore utilities won’t recognise it. Is this to do with the ext3 thing?

      Thanks.

I’m not sure I understand that, sorry.

I had no problems installing from the optical disk if that’s what you mean?
