Sorry, but I wasn’t sure that much text would fit into this box, and there’s a timeout on composing messages while online. I’m not a frequent visitor.
Deleting the modem and physically removing it and letting it rediscover it after replacing it after a reboot didn’t help. Nor could I find any yellow flags.
Maybe I should repost this in the Windows XP forum, or is that taboo?

      Reformulated question attached.

Pity. Am I imagining it, or did a previous version show ‘today’ by greying out the box or something of the sort? Thanks for the answer – it’s been nagging me for some time now.

Problem solved. I don’t know when or why, but in fooling around with language options I must have changed the default keyboard to ‘Canadian bilingual’. It was actually a Windows 98 Control Panel setting unrelated to Office.

Word reports Compile error in hidden modules FileNew, FileSaveAs, and modShadowMacros. WOPR, Avery Wizard, and WordWeb were uninstalled and Normal.dot was deleted before installation, and installation has been repeated several times over. I prefer not to have to reformat the disk.

I can’t install WOPR 2000 (and don’t know if it’s advisable) because it can’t find the correct version of WinWord. I still have remnants from the previous installation.

My posted problems appear to have been solved by any or all of reducing the macro security level from high to medium and unchecking, under
      Templates and Add-Ins, all loaded items: EWED.DOT, WWEBVB.DOT, FileNew.dot, FloppyCopy.dot, and Selection Word Count.dot.
