Joe, cross posting. Yep I did post on Eileen’s Lounge over 2 weeks ago, but no answers there, so being desperate, I tried here.

access-mdb; How do I know no backups of particular folders? I looked in the target folder that FH is supposed to write to.

All, sorry for the time to respond. It’s a long time since I was on the Lounge and Paul, I expected that the long ago practice of sending emails when replies have been made was still in force. I received no emails so assumed no replies.
event log: I have no idea. don’t know how to read it.

It would be FAR better if you included a link in your email that logs us in and opens the current newsletter. You do know the email address of subscribers, just include that link in their email. Simple.
Currently we have to click the link then scroll to the end of what is presented of the first article and then click the log in link. Then we have to provide our log in details, click again and finally there is the newsletter. Crazy when you think about it.

Like Alpha Wolf, I use ‘Unlocker’. Been using it for years. All it needs is a Simple right click on the problem file in File Explorer, which enables immediate delete of any file. For files with un-removable locks it offers to delete next reboot.
Absolutely dead simple and works every time. Brilliant piece of free software. Another example if KISS working.

this page [/url]will show some pointers you like.

Thanks Ted. I got one from that page. Don’t have to have other software running now.
      Avagr8day,

Thanks Zig, tried that a long time ago and again recently, but I cannot see any way to change the color of the pointers there.

    • in reply to: Publisher won't mail merge #1230435

      Thanks Brendan.
I solved the problem – well not really. I did away with using Word tables as the data source and changed to using tables from within Access. Cleaner and more efficient, as I already use Access to open the Publisher docs.
Frustrating that Word tables suddenly wouldn’t work though!

    • in reply to: Arrow keys in Google screensaver #1218475

      Thanks Nathan.
Yes I was aware of the space bar. But it’s not nearly as easy as the arrow keys.
This sounds like the sort of ‘fix’ that Microsoft would implement.

BTW, I think that you don’t need Picasa to have the fade & zoom effects. I don’t have Picasa. (or if I did, I have uninstalled it) yet Google Photos Screen Saver still does all that.

      Thanks John.
That solution seems just the thing. I’ll give it a go.
      Thanks again.

    • in reply to: Email Merge from Access #1205618

Wendell, I was just trying to guide ‘Devious’.
In time gone by I wrote an Access vba procedure to send bulk emails. In doing that I had to break them up into groups of no more than 50 to get past the ISP’s restrictions. It all worked perfectly except frequently Outlook would stop sending about halfway through. No one in the Lounge (including Hans) could find a reason – it was just a quirk of Outlook. I purchased ‘PB EMail’ to overcome Outlook’s quirks, but never used it. I have well and truly finished with that project now and have no desire to revisit it.

    • in reply to: Compare 2 addresses #1205549

Hi Scott, in my Dbs, I always clean addresses I enter. I use the table StreetCorrections to find the street abbreviation and replace it with the offered correct abbreviation. In your case, you could use that table to find the street part of you r addresses and remove them. You could also remove any numbers (Isnumeric() would be good for that). Then use Trim() to remove spaces. You should be able to do all that automatically with 1 – 3 queries. You will be left with the street name.
I have attached the table in StreetCorrections.xls. You should be able to import it to Access as a table.

    • in reply to: Email Merge from Access #1205547

Most ISPs will limit the number of emails that can be sent at once. Your code would have to split the emails into groups of maybe 50. I wrote code that did just that in Access 2003, and it worked a treat. But inexplicably Outlook can stop sending them. No one in the Lounge could find a way to get Outlook to work consistently.
There is a company that sells emailing programs that can be accessed through VBA. These bypass Outlook altogether and can send any amount of emails in one hit. A while ago I purchased such a program called PB EMail. However I never got around to using it .

    • in reply to: Backup program requirement #1205489

Thanks Stuart. Looks like this is what I’m after.
I have sent a message to them requesting confirmation that the program does indeed do all I want.
      Thanks again,

    • in reply to: No 'Location' tab on My Documents properties #1194524

Thanks Joe. Unfortunately there is no ‘My Documents’ folder under ‘Documents’ in the ‘Library’ folder. And no ‘My Documents’ folder anywhere in the ‘Library’ folder.
