      I use Alarm:

For my modest photo storage needs a free acount from Blue Melon is adequate: “Free accounts have a storage limit of 1GB, a photo count limit of 1000 photographs, and only the basic features enabled. You can keep it forever as long as you login at least once every six months.”

You might want to try Paragon Backup & Recovery also; like Macrium Reflect they offer a free version. From an ease of use perspective I think I prefer Paragon, but I’m not very familiar with it yet.

I’ve been using G Data AV for two years now. Its web and email monitoring in particular have been impressive. I also scan regularly with MBAM in Safe Mode at a cmd prompt to get a quiet operating environment with as little potential interference from running programs as possible. SUPERAntiSpyware is another useful tool; I think its recently redesigned interface is an improvement.

      Gloria,

      In Firefox 3.6.3:

Tools, Options, Privacy, check “Clear history when Firefox closes”. Before clicking “OK”, click “Settings” in that window.
Now you’ll see “When I quit Firefox, it should automatically clear all:” Check the items you want cleared; you’ll see “Cache” is one of the options. Then “OK” your way out and restart Firefox.

      Adobe Reader alternatives:

Because of intractable issues between Foxit’s reader and my Vista setup, I use PDF-XChange Viewer, which has more features than I need but is smaller than Adobe’s product.

Social engineering, as it’s called, has more success than I would have expected. It’s puzzling but, psychologically, I think too many people falsely assume their closed doors somehow include the Internet, as if only face-to-face threats are real. Then there’s always common denial and rationalization on the side of these “social engineers” as well; after all, I haven’t died out on the highway yet, even though over 40,000 do every year in America alone. Reality’s a fine instructor though—if you heed its lessons. If not, I’m not sympathetic.

With Vista Home Premium, up-to-date with security patches, I run ThreatFire alongside Comodo’s firewall and NOD32 without problems. For manual scans with Anti-Vir Personal or MBAM, I flip ThreatFire into suspend mode temporarily. I wish Webroot’s SpySweeper had co-existed this nicely with my Vista setup; I might have kept it.

Although not specifically a security tool, I guess, I like the simplicity and speed of filehippo.com’s Update Checker.
