    • in reply to: Upgrading from Office 2003 to Office 2010 #1255900

I really like Office 2010. In my opinion it rocks! My workplace is on 2003 and we’re still waiting to go to 2007.

    • in reply to: Copy and paste not working on Internet #1254772

I was having the same problem with Word 2007.

Copy/paste would not work if I did the copy from my browser (Firefox) window and then opened Word 2007 to paste. Things worked well if both applications were running before the copy/paste. I’m using FoxIt PDF and I found that if I disabled the FoxIt PDF add-in in Word then the copy/paste function worked as it should. Haven’t found the reason for this issue.

We found this was an issue with a particular set of templates at our office. When I changed the macro security settings to medium the function returned. It might be worth looking at your macro security settings. I don’t have 2010 here at the office, just 2003 and 2007 but probably in the same location for Word 2010. File|Options|Trust centre and see below.

Hi everyone – have found a solution completely by accident (although should’ve really tried before having to post on here!!!). Ran Workshare protect clean before uploading out document then realised this morning that that had fixed our issue. Patricia, thanks for your replies in any event, and would still like to know if by document container, you mean it’s location.
      Thanks!
      Violet

Hello Violet and my apologies for not responding sooner! Yes, Gary was right what I meant was a fresh Word blank container. I get a new document screen then choose Insert|File. I have solved many of troublesome document issues by doing that for users. As we use Legal MacPac at my workplace it simplifies getting a new container. If the document can be opened I click on MacPac|Attach| to and choose Business template.

Another way to do it is select all of the document except for the last paragraph mark and paste it into a new container. Omitting the last paragraph mark will most often leave the damage behind.

Don’t know if this will help but there is an Office 2010 – Use these interactive guides to find the new menu and toolbar commands that you might have a look out. A friend is using it until he gets a handle on where some of the commands are.

Here’s another site a bit easier to navigate with a list of Interactive Guides

    • in reply to: XP/Wireless Mouse/K-Board Issue #1252809

I’m so happy to say the issue is resolved. I reinstalled the software, disconnected all, tried another USB Port, reconnected all, restarted and voila! I did get a couple of brief message displaying that the wireless connection was weak so I turned the receiver upside down (go figger) and it’s seems okay now. Can’t thank you all enough for your answers which encouraged me to keep trying. I hate giving up but I was getting there. And after all that I don’t like the keyboard touch which is seems delicate (I’m old school and a bit of a heavy-handed keyboard person); miss the larger Function keys big time: they’re still there but hardly noticeable they’re so tiny. I’ll persevere for a few weeks and try to get used to it since at my age my gray cells can use the workout!

      Happy All Hallows Eve Loungers!

Did you download the latest software from Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Hardware – Download Software?

Did you start the software install before attaching the device controller?

      Joe

Hi there, Yes, I did the software install first and then proceeded to connect the rest of it. A quick Google confirms that the media does work with XP http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/download/hardware/WMD1000FS_FINAL.pdf which I was beginning to doubt. I went to the site you suggested and downloaded Intellitype Pro 8.0 just in case, restarted etc.

    • in reply to: XP/Wireless Mouse/K-Board Issue #1252763

I had the same problem with a ms 3000 keyboard and a seperate wireless mouse 6000.

What I found I needed to do was uninstall the old keyboard and mouse software and then re-install the new software and after that it worked fine.

Thanks for the feedback. The previous keyboard is a standard Dell wired so no option for removal. What irritates me is I had contacted Dell since my system is 2005 and wanted to be sure it was compatible, gave them my account and system information and they informed me it would work, no problem! on my XP system. I’ve been in touch with them again and will post back if they have anything helpful to say but I’m beginning to think that this media does not work with XP. If they confirm again that it does I will uninstall and reinstall I guess.

Well believe it or not this is the third time I’ve written a reply and the second time it didn’t appear (this time I’m copying it before saying “Add reply”. Don’t know what happened but it’s a first at the Lounge for me).

Thanks for the reply: much appreciated. I did wonder about interference but there’s nothing on here except on TV digital receiver (which is in another room). It’s puzzling and more than a little irritating. Believe it or not I don’t have a cell phone! Having lost my second one quite a few years ago, I waited a while hoping against hope someone would pick it up and call one of the numbers and I’d get it back. Then after a time I just felt set free and never got another one.

    • in reply to: TOC and Cross Reference hyperlinks corrupt #1252037

Nancy, I had another go at this, deleted the TOC, and reinserted using only heading 1. Looks okay to me and the TOC hyperlinks do work.

    • in reply to: TOC and Cross Reference hyperlinks corrupt #1252031

      Hi Nancy,
I just opened your document in 2010 and did a bit of look-around. I noticed that there’s a large part of your document that is considered a bookmark if the attached screen shot is to be believed. Maybe deleting the problem bookmark and redoing up to the point displayed may help. I don’t have my Microsystems DocXTools here at home so I can’t run that as a troubleshooter.

I then deleted and re-inserted the table of contents and have attached it in case it helps you at all.

One thing you might try would be to insert the file into a new container. I’ve found that frequently the issue is the document container.

    • in reply to: Adobe Reader 9 update #1250598

Here’s another gripe about updating the Adobe Reader. On a system with v9.1 when you check for updates you first get v9.2, then have to AGAIN check for updates to get updated to the latest v9.4.

I recently blogged about seven other reasons to use an alternate PDF viewing program.

Thanks for that — I note you have a future blog coming with more on Adobe which I’ll be looking for. I also got the McAfee program and obviously missed the box to uncheck as I was in a hurry. Simple to uninstall it of course which I did pdq. I’ve been using PDF995 forever it seems and I really like it. Free but you can upgrade if you send a donation. I sometimes do that with the Free software as I’ve been so grateful it worked when I really needed it (ie Pandora – recovering deleted photos from my Canon).

    • in reply to: Recovering deleted photos on CanonG11 #1250205

Great news!! And thanks a million for the help. I got my external card reader, downloaded a couple of software recovery programs and the second one I tried – Pandora – as recommended in the CNET article you referred me to worked! It not only recovered pictures from my Thanksgiving weekend but photos I had taken as far back as May of this year on the Toronto Island. So thank you …

    • in reply to: Recovering deleted photos on CanonG11 #1249103

Thanks a lot for this jscher. I’ll see if I can find external/internal card reader on a computer or laptop soonest but failing that it seems like a good idea to have an external card reader on hand. Will post back and let you know of my luck. Thanks for that article at the CNET reference.[/size]

I’ve done this before using a field code reference and where necessary edited the switches.

    • in reply to: Background image on Word 2007 page #1244380

I did that once – inadvertently when I was just starting to use Word 2007. And it’s the setting just below view gridlines – it’s Grid Settings shown in the screen shot above. Drove me bananas until I figured out what I’d done!
