AskWoody LoungerNovember 23, 2015 at 2:41 am in reply to: Outlook 2007 in Win8 and 10: text on incoming mail often tiny #1538822Thank you. I did not realize that there was a zoom setting for an individual email and not all the windows in the program. That’s a better workaround than creating replies or forwards, which is what I have been doing.
But it’s still four clicks and it still seems like there must be something that can be done to avoid the problem in the first place. I never had this problem with Outlook 2007 before and I installed it on this new computer from the same disk. Does anyone have a clue why this would be happening and how to avoid it?

It does work as expected in other programs, but not in Outlook on this operating system on this computer. I just tried it again to be sure.

AskWoody LoungerSo, it looks like there is not really any reason to use “currency” format if I’m not actually using dollars and cents. Is that right? I don’t do any complicated math with the numbers, just addition and subtraction.

AskWoody LoungerThanks for that tip on folders Roderunner.
Do you know whether the issues with the “to” column sorting and the search function malfunctioning are issues that any other users of this program have encountered? I’m just baffled by such a blatant malfunction in basic features of program that has been evolving – and supposedly improving – for years.

AskWoody LoungerHi Roderunner. Yes – the default sort order is by date. But clicking other column headers (subject, for example) will sort them by that field. The only field that doesn’t work this way seems to be the “to” field.
I’m not sure what you mean about creating a separate folder. I can’t find any option to create any folders in this version of the program [Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3502.0922)]. In previous versions of Windows Mail and Outlook Express I had my mail sorted into dozens of folders and subfolders (all of which could be sorted by any column I chose, at any time).
I’ve spent some more time hunting for an answer elsewhere online and still cannot find any evidence that anyone else has this problem – or the problem with the search feature (the really nice search feature has been the primary reason I have used this program for so many years. So I am now beginning to look at other programs and may have to just dump this one if I can’t get these issues solved – but I’m still hoping to avoid that drastic action)

AskWoody LoungerThe columns that show when I open the sent items “folder” (they don’t look like folders in this newest version of the program, but I’ll call it that for lack of a better word) are:
[*]Importance (denoted by !)
[*]Attachment (denoted by a paperclip)
[*]To
[*]Subject
[*]Sent
[*]AccountI had one of my co-workers who does a lot of our computer minor trouble-shooting look at it yesterday and it behaved exactly the same for him.
Just to be clear, it is the “to” column that I am trying to sort. I often sort by the “to” or “from” columns and have never had trouble before this. Clicking the “to” column, or selecting it in the “View > Sort By” ribbon yields the exact same result as clicking “subject” or selecting “subject” in the “View > Sort By” ribbon.
I just added the “to” column to my inbox, and it has the same problem there. So it seems that the problem is with the “to” column no matter where it is used, not a problem with the sent items folder.
And the search feature (which as I mentioned is also not functioning properly) of course is not attached to a folder anyway.

AskWoody LoungerI just tried it again, and this time when it got to the “create or open” dialog I just clicked “Open” and then clicked “OK” on the next box that popped up and now I can open Outlook without the error messages.
I would still appreciate clues on how to re-import the additional calendars without triggering this problem again. In case it matters, I installed Outlook Business Contacts between when I imported the first calendar and the other calendars. But I haven’t used it. I installed it only because the only options Outlook gave me were to install it or to be reminded later, and I was tired of being reminded later.
Thanks for any tips. I’ll be trying to reimport tomorrow.

AskWoody LoungerI have been off this project for a month – just now getting back to it.
Thank you Andrew, for your explanation. That makes perfect sense.
I will solve the problem by requiring that each employer have at least one worsite entered, even if that worksite is “unknown”. We have a lot of members where we know only the employer, not the worksite, anyway, so that will solve that problem as well.Thank you again.

AskWoody LoungerWorking with print setup, I still have a problem. Excel appears to want to fit the whole thing onto one page. I changed the page size from letter to legal, and then it expanded nicely onto three pages. So I put it back on letter size but I didn’t like where the page breaks fell so I went back to legal. I made no other changes, but once I went back to legal Excel is putting it all on one page again and it’s too small! Switching between letter and legal no longer changes this situation.

AskWoody LoungerI have five years worth of data, and the years are listed simply as years (e.g.2009)
Thanks for the tip about dragging. I had tried that yesterday – but what I didn’t notice was that Excel apparently takes some time to recalculate when I hit the bottom of the screen. It appeared that was as far as I could drag. But this morning I notice that it just takes a little time (the longer the chart the more seconds it takes) before the scroll bar moves up and gives me more space to continue expanding. Yesterday this phenomenon made it appear that there was a limit to how far I could expand it.
Also, the original spreadsheet was made by our bookkeeper and had three blank columns between the labels and the data. Excel considered this data so was trying to make eight bars on every category instead of just five, which made the original chart just that much more crowded. I’ve now removed the blank columns in the original spreadsheet and dragged the chart out to a good looking size.
So as long as it looks okay when I print it (won’t have a printer available until later in the day)
Thank you for helping me with my skinny line problem!

AskWoody LoungerHere is a database with the tables in question. You can see the behavior in the T_EmploymentDetails table.
-
WSorganizer
AskWoody LoungerHowever – it still does not work in the table lookup field that I need it in. The choices all appear, but as soon as the curser leaves the lookup field, if the option selected was a company without a worksite linked to it, the data disappears from the field. Perhaps I need a totally different approach? I have attached the three relevant tables. I will try to upload a little database with the tables in question in a few minutes.

AskWoody LoungerI think I have solved the problem. It turns out that the problem was not with the query, but was with the form that the query was embedded in. I need to work out a requery function for when something gets added. Thank you for your assistance – working the problem through to post, and responding to Wendell’s question helped me see more of the details.

AskWoody LoungerOops. I misspoke. It changes from Right Join to Left Join, if I change from Property 1 to Property 2, but the data that shows in the query results doesn’t change.

AskWoody LoungerHere is the string from the sequel view
SELECT T_Employer.Employer, T_Worksite.Worksite
FROM T_Employer RIGHT JOIN T_Worksite ON T_Employer.EmployerID = T_Worksite.EmployerID;I selected the join properties by right clicking on the join in design view. But even if I save it, it doesn’t seem to change anything that shows in Squl view.
