Thanks for the comments. I have downloaded the Malwarebytes program and will remember to run it often.

I didn’t click on anything directly in that app. Task Manager wouldn’t open either and I did a forced shutdown but on restart it was still there. So that is when I started running anti-virus programs until I found one that worked. I will remember Malwarebytes app.
Thanks for the info from both of you.:^_^:

Thanks, I will try that and see if that does the trick.

Just to add to my post, I don’t want to use Windows Live. I tried it and it is totally messed up as far as I am concerned, way to hard to work with.

Robert, thanks for the link, I will try that. Lee, if you are willing, I would appreciate if you could email me 1a and 2, I have 3 on CD. My email is builder50@gmail.com if you could just send each as an attachment, it would be great. Thanks to everyone for great ideas.

    • in reply to: Run Windows Live Mail without Live #1231026

I have Windows Live installed, the full package, whatever that entails. I have been trying to figure out how to import all my OE email contacts and folders up to Windows Live and I can’t see how that has to be done. I have my contacts in a different folder than default, but when I try, it only wants to do one contact at a time, not acceptable. I also have contacts in Outlook 2000 with addresses that I would like to import to have everything together. I like OE and have used it forever. I have XP and SP3 on a Toshiba laptop. Thanks for any help. I looked at some of the tutorials and can’t really make sense of them. :~

Interestingly enough, I can download from that link, but I get this message when trying to install “Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 did not complete successfully. For assistance call Microsoft Tech Support, and then See the log file, Office 2000 SR-1 Setup.txt
But when I went to the MS Tech Support link, it only had support for Office 2010, at least that was all I could see. So I guess the MS link is corrupted so as not to allow it to work.

I uninstalled all of the HP software and reinstalled it. Seemed to help last night on shutdown. Thanks.

Thanks for the responses. I kind of thought WNP couldn’t, but since that is what was used to send the video on, I thought I would consider. I will check on the cache after the next one. Thanks.

Thanks for the tips. I will try using my OEM CD and slipstreaming SP3 after we get by the holiday. I have always been reluctant to delve into this slipstreaming but it won’t hurt to try and I will do a full backup first. 🙂

    • in reply to: Moving user folders off C: drive #1224775

Having read all these different ways to store os and data files, I still like mine. I have partitioned my drive into at least 3 partitions ever since Partition Magic came out, which I think is 10 or more years ago. I have os and program files on c and a partition for data files and another one for pictures and video. I also have another partition that I can do a c backup on for whatever reason. That way I can back up a partition separately whenever I want.

    • in reply to: MS Outlook 2000 backup #1214059

Thanks for the help from all. I have been slow about getting back, other issues to deal with. OK, I went into Outlook, selected all, copied all and pasted into a new folder on a separate partition. It looks valid. However, when I open Outlook I still get the message, “The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using”. I don’t understand that part. I can open individual contacts without a problem, just the message pops up. Any insight on this on appreciated. Thanks.

I can find it OK, the problem is saving it doesn’t work. I actually have the file on another partition, but when I do the export in Outlook, then go to my folder in F drive, I found the contact folder Ok. But when I click on it I get the very same message as before, ” The command line argument is not valid. Verify the switch you are using.” What the hell does this mean anyway? I am simply trying to backup my contacts and then check to see if they are backed up. My old contact list backed up a year ago is still there, but very out of date. Thank for your suggestions.
