I probably need to add ram. I am thinking maybe another 1 gig stick, which would give 1.5. I did a clean reinstall of Windows. I soon as I get a few bucks I will buy the ram. I wiped the drive and installed everything from scratch and updated all software and any hardware updated indicated. I am beginning to think there is one program, Legacy, which is not letting go of memory. It is a genealogy program and I frequently have it running all day. With that I might have both FF and IE running with several tabs, because some of my research won’t work on FF and a lot of my passwords and bookmarks are on FF.

      Thanks for the ideas.

See, that’s the problem, when I go to options, when I click on any tab, including Save, I get the message “Cannot access directory GExcel files”. I wonder if I make a copy of my Excel files on G partition so it recognizes it, and then maybe I can change it back. I would have the copies in both places, so wouldn’t lose anything. I may try that now and see.

I want it to be F:Excel files

Yes, it should have been G:Excel files. But it still doesn’t work. Thanks

This was helpful. Thanks to all.

When I click on the Save tab, I get “Cannot access directory GExcel files”. Actually when I click on any of the other tabs, I get that message. The program works OK, I just can’t save without saving into a new file.

I have used partitions since Windows 95. I have always thought it was a smarter thing to do to isolate your files from the OS. I have 2 partitions, one for files and one for pictures and media. That way if Windows goes down, I can format the C partition without disturbing everything else. You have to force Windows to look for files in other places and that gets frustrating at times. In Office, not a problem, but others always goes to the default which I haven’t figured out how to change in my Corel Paint Shop Pro 13.

Joe, thanks, that did seem to correct the problem.

I was able to go in and re-letter the drives and put the Magic Jack CD designation on J and that seems to work OK.

I was just looking through the properties of each and it appears that my Magic Jack VOIP application has decided it was a CD drive. I have had Magic Jack for over a year and has never shown up that way before, at least I don’t think so. Anyone familiar with Magic Jack?

mart44 thanks. Sorry it has taken so long to get back here. Still working out many issues on getting everything up. I have stopped using TB for the moment and just working out of Google, since I use Gmail. I have rescued my contacts but don’t have any of the thousands of email I had. Can’t figure yet why that is. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated. I will keep MozBackup in mind for another time.

I wiped my hard drive this weekend so starting over. Got Windows working again and got the new FF v.8 and Thunderbird v.8. Have problems in FF, had saved bookmarks with favorites and can’t get them recognized as bookmarks now. Also Thunderbird doesn’t recognize the old Thunderbird files that I copied into the TB folder. Trying to make the new RoboForm work too, but that is another issue. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Tinto, I went through the registry this morning and deleted a bunch of entries from old programs that I had uninstalled months ago, but ccleaner had not found them. Things are a little faster now, but I will run a chkdsk in the morning and see what it finds.

Thank you for the responses. I did a defrag, which I haven’t done for awhile, but it wasn’t bad. Then ran ccleaner which I do run regularly, not much there either. Then I used the MS Clean Boot Procedure. That shuts off all except minimum and that makes a big difference. Yes, I really need to do a re-install but I really dislike going through that process. But on some cold day, I probably will. I checked on disc compression and it isn’t checked. I have 33% free space. Using F8 doesn’t seem to work to get to Safe Mode. It seems like I went through msconfig to get there once, but forget the exact way to do that. I went to Event Viewer and got this:

Not sure you can see this at all but there were several hangs for several different apps including FireFox. I will keep playing with these ideas and see what else I can come up with.
Thanks again for all the suggestions

    • in reply to: Flash Player update #1292222

Yes, I did a reboot several times, tried the reinstall several times. Then yesterday Flash Player showed up with what I guess is it’s new version of asking for permission when I go to a site needing Flash Player. Not quite sure what happened, but I am glad it is now working. Seems like a lot of sites use Flash Player.
      Thank you for your response.
