I just wanted to add to the post I made about Facebook. I found that it is a Firefox problem. I finally tried IE and got in fine.

I do want to post another question, not sure if this is the exact right place. This is about Facebook and possibly a security issue or maybe it is something else. I was in Facebook 2 nights ago, and the Facebook screen went from full-size to 1/4 size so it was unreadable. I haven’t been able to get it back to full size since. I updated Java last night, thought that might be it, but made no difference. I am wondering whether v.30 of Firefox might be the issue.
Any ideas appreciated. Not like this is an earthshaking issue.

Thanks Retired Geek. I think I will give Secunia a try again since I have had good luck in the past.

Thanks James S. I will consider File Hippo, but I think I will go back to Secunia since I had good luck in the past. Of course we now how valid or not past experience can be with software updates.

Thanks Zig, I will be aware of v.3 I will get Secunia installed and see how it goes.

I have been using PSP Pro X3 for a few years now and like it pretty well. I am no way versed in all that it will do, but I can do what I want easily. I had V6 and then V8 when it was JASC. I scan a lot of stuff, both text and pictures and get good results. I haven’t mastered splicing 2 together which I would like to do, but haven’t taken the time.

I did find out that there is a switch on the keyboard that can turn the touchpad off and on. The tech at BestBuy showed me several things that helped.

I have basically gone to using IE for now. It works well and doesn’t give me any trouble. I will probably research the problems with FireFox at some point. I like GMail so will keep using that. I will check about Windows Live Mail as a backup.
      Thanks

Thanks for all that posted. I did not intentionally open to an unknown company. I went to MS tech and they referred me off to this company which I thought at first was another level of MS Tech. I did get the charge reversed. I have run Malwarebytes several times since and backed up. Everything seems to be working OK I went to BestBuy online support a couple of days later from some issues and he played with it for awhile and said Windows was corrupted and I would have to reinstall. So I got an appointment at the store and took it in. The tech there said the password was locked but otherwise there was nothing wrong. I have learned about trying to get anyone on line to do any kind of service work. I will just take it to the store.

Something to add to my last post. I just pass my hand over the touchpad, barely touching it, and it goes crazy

    • in reply to: switching from igoogle to ??? #1407567

I just changed to igHome a few days ago and it works pretty well. I don’ particularly like the way it is formatted, but hopefully I will find some work-arounds. I can put all the same features on the home page that I had on iGoogle.

    • in reply to: Backups #1386940

I use flash drives for my backup. I have XP SP3 and I use 2 16gb flash drives. I backup with one, take it off site, then back up the other one here. Then on the first of the month, I do a fresh backup on the one at home and take it and exchange the other one. It has worked quite well for me, it’s simple and it doesn’t depend on other software. I just do a file copy on files that have changed and leave everything else alone. That way it takes very little time and since I put a fresh copy on backup up dated files, they are up to date. Any one have an opinion on this system. I know it is about time to replace both flash drives for security and safety. I have used these 2 years and though they only have been used for less then 50 copies I feel safer getting newer ones in the circuit this year.

You have, as always, made good points in the article. I downloaded the Autoruns app but really do not see why to use it effectively. I remember having it downloaded it in the past and not able to make any sense of the information it provides. Anyone who can guide me on that would be appreciated.

I just wanted to get back and give an update on the original question. I finally did install MSE and uninstalled Zone Alarm. That has made a giant difference. Everything actually loads quickly like it’s supposed to. Now I have to see if I can get credit from ZA since I had just renewed the subscription in March. Thanks to everyone and their ideas.

Hi, I have played with disabling all of the Add-ons and with all disabled, it make a big difference. I have added 2 of the basic ones, including my RoboForm tool bar and it seems to be better. I will see how it goes after a day or two and report back. Thanks for the ideas
