AskWoody LoungerMarch 24, 2015 at 11:42 am in reply to: MalwareBytes Professional, Kaspersky blocking something #1496895In searching Regedit, I found 2 instances of superfish and deleted them. I will see if that makes a difference. Also I will pay more attention to what program is bringing that incident up.

AskWoody LoungerThis is really strange. I had messed with that for an hour and couldn’t get it to work but when I went back and clicked on 5B, it did exactly what I wanted it to do. Thanks anyway.

AskWoody LoungerA year ago when I bought my new laptop and sprung for 8.1 and decided to go whole hog and bought Office 13. I had Office 2002 before. I agree that word is insanely complicated when you want to do simple documents, it is difficult (impossibly?) to find some functions that were readily available before. I don’t see a problem having all the functions, just don’t cover up the everyday ones.

AskWoody LoungerActually what I have just found is: Click on the folder I want and then use Alt and F for the find box and enter term. It works great. The other way doesn’t work for me. Anyway thanks.

AskWoody LoungerWell, Win key + F does not sort Windows Explorer I found out this morning. It took me to the same set of internet files that had came up before even though I designated “files”. All I am trying to do is have Windows Explorer open and find a file name in a folder. That shouldn’t be so hard except it is a big folder. Windows XP you could easily sort in Explorer so there must be some way to do this. Thanks

AskWoody LoungerThank you very much. I figured it was simple, I just couldn’t come up with it.

AskWoody LoungerBeton, that worked quite well. Good information for the future. I had not thought about the single file size.
Thank you very much

AskWoody LoungerDecember 4, 2014 at 9:33 am in reply to: Drivers update crashes Windows 8.1 on Toshiba laptop #1478565Well, for whatever reason, I finally was able to install the Toshiba updates and everything is working pretty well at the moment. I think Karpersky probably turns WD off, it just appeared to be running. Thanks to all for the help.

AskWoody LoungerDecember 2, 2014 at 8:11 pm in reply to: Drivers update crashes Windows 8.1 on Toshiba laptop #1478236I noticed that Windows Defender was running too. I wonder if that is creating a problem. I am going to call Toshiba tomorrow and see if we can get some ideas together. I will get back after I get some more ideas. I haven’t been able to determine what the Toshiba updates are as far as dates.

AskWoody LoungerI did a system restore yesterday afternoon, have got everything else reinstalled, all updates on and my Legacy program is running. Thanks for the ideas.

AskWoody LoungerI tried the compatibility mode and Microsoft calls the program incompatible.l I tried a Restore and the earliest date I had was Oct 30 and that wouldn’t restore for some reason. So, I think this calls for a complete restore of the operating system. I have what is called a restore on a flash drive and there is a system partition on the harddrive. I would like if someone could point me to written directions on the process before I jump off the deep end. Thanks to everyone for the ideas.

AskWoody LoungerDr. Who, where do i find that program “Grant Admin Full Control”. I feel the same way, it’s my computer and I am the only way that is going to mess with any changes.
Thanks

AskWoody LoungerI will try that process listed and see how it goes tomorrow. Any ideas why my updates wouldn’t show up?
thanks

AskWoody LoungerWent into programs to see what downloads were there and it said no downloads installed. Huh? I had checked to show downloads. So what happened here does anyone have a guess on this.
Thanks -

AskWoody LoungerOne more post on the Facebook problem. I wasn’t aware that there was a setting with a menu in FF that adjusted the size of the window. The Facebook setting was 40% so when I set it at 100% everything was fine. I had another site that was somewhat smaller and it was 80%. So it is a good thing to know.
