    • in reply to: Paint.net vs Irfanview – Which one is better? #1225948

According to Wikipedia, “GIMPshop is a modification of the free and open source graphics program GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop.”

I haven’t tried it because after a few years of occasional use, I’ve got used to GIMP’s less than lovable UI. But it does look like it might be worth a try.

GIMPshop is no longer being developed, afaik.
To answer the OP’s question, Irfanview is an image viewer on stealth mode. It will do far more than what you may need in most circumstances. I’ve tried Paint.NET, Photoscape, Fastone, Photofiltre and some of the others mentioned in this thread. They’re all very useful, but Irfanview remains my freeware choice. Fwiw, I normally work inside of Capture One 5, Lightroom 2, and Photoshop CS2, but I’ll still use Irfanview for quick-and-dirty .jpeg manipulation.

It’s apparent that most of the replies focus on GIMP, but I encourage you to look at Paint.NET before deciding. Both are actively developed and have active forums; I just feel the learning curve for Paint is a little less steep. A long-time user of Photoshop (started with version 6), I was more comfortable with Paint at first encounter, Ymmv. I don’t know about the “arrows” feature you need – I never had a client that wanted what I think you mean.

      Good luck!

    • in reply to: Can any audio player sync songs/files IN ORDER?! #1208383

I think I understand your question. Many, many years ago, I made music collages on quarter-inch tape decks, so I got used to ordering any way I liked. When I finally moved to digital, I discovered the software laid the tracks in alphabetically, so I started renaming them. i just added a number at the beginning of the track. Would this method, or a variation, work for you? I don’t use iPods or mp3 players, so while I’m not sure what the result would be, it seems like it would work.

I did the exact same thing when I was installing Revo on a friend’s computer. Since the machine was on site, I installed Free to uninstall Pro. Worked just fine!

I’d like to help, but I don’t recognize PhotoSuite 2. Who makes it?

Depends on your definition of harmless
The utility is OK – but you need a code (freely provided) and they constantly send you emails – then you need to renew the registraion (and revalidate your email every month or so).

I had a few of their utilities (View / Download etc) installed but eventually gave up after multiple “you need to reregister” cycles.

I ran into the same situation. Came across them when I was much more of a newbie. Curiously, I never used any of the software, even after dutifully downloading them repeatedly. Fresh Devices is a one-man operation out of Santa Monica, California as I recall. The click-throughs were the revenue stream for the site.
