      Thanks,

kweaver that first example does what I need.

Well, actually either one does the job. The second one I had trouble with. But I guess that my typing skills need help. Stupid mis-types can cause lots of problems. Thanks again.

If you have iTunes installed on your machine, create an Apple ID for your daughter and log into iTunes with those credentials. Then use the AppStore on the iPod with the new credentials and she will be independent from your account.

You will have limited control over what she installs however, so your shared method has some advantages.

      Good idea! Will do.

    • in reply to: loading apps to iTouch without iTunes #1293810

Use the App Store application built into the iPod Touch.

Can’t use the built in app because she has no account set up and can’t set an account without the iTunes installed on computer. A catch 22!:o:

Can you post a full screen shot of the error, plus any background windows and processes? Can you also look at the Event Viewer and let us know what it says about the error? I can’t find a reference to that specific error code occurring upon installation of iTunes.

I think its a general code from Microsoft for any program that won’t load.

Here is a cut and paste of a Google search showing this same code:
      [h=3]iTunes Error Codes ( with explanation ) | Raptor Talks[/h]raptor.hk/ituneserrorcodes-with-explanation/ – Cached
      Jan 23, 2011 – iTunes Error Codes ( with explanation ) ….. error -2019 progressProcAborted; error –2018 mediaTypesDontMatch; error -2017 badEditList .

Be that this is my daughter’s machine she doesn’t want me tying it up any more. So we decided she will use my machine and iTunes account and program to get any apps she may want and then use one of the many free manager programs to add her music and so on. But thanks for the offer.

I have not tried this but it looks promising. http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/
Also others have reported that http://www.dropbox.com/ can be used for this.

      Thanks, Russ,

I looked over the Web site and I don’t think it’s what I’m looking for. In fact there are many free programs that will let manage the iTouch without ever using iTunes. My problem is being able to download and install iTunes apps without the use of iTunes running on the computer.

Since I don’t use the time functions very often I know I won’t remember any of this in the near future. I’m going to save the replies for future reference.

Thanks again to you and the others who posted.

    • in reply to: Time duration in Excel 2007 #1269655

I like your layout and it gave me several other ideas on how to present my data.

    • in reply to: Time duration in Excel 2007 #1269654

      =B2-A2-((B2-A2)>6/24)*0.5/24

Or with one of the variations with an if:
      =B2-A2-IF((B2-A2)>6/24,0.5,0)/24

Note: 6/24 is 6 hours and 0.5/24 is a half-hour since time in excel is in units of DAYS.

      Steve

Steve, Thank you. The key is that I did not understand or realize the 6/24 and .5/24.

    • in reply to: Making sure MSE is always updating #1263571

I perform this task manually mainly because I’m not up running 24/7. Even if I was running 24/7 I would set time aside to perform
manual updates. MSE can also be updated through Windows Update as well.
MSEm if I’m not mistaken can also have it’s own update schedule modified to a degree.

If I read it correctly this “fix” is meant for the computer that does not stay up running 24/7. As originally installed MSE will pick a time to update. If at that time the computer is turned off then that update will not be downloaded at any other time later. As far as setting up another time I believe its the same situation. If you snooze you loose. Anyway, I think the auto update is the better way to go. If my routine is upset then I tend to forget to do certain things. This way at least I know I’m getting the latest definitions. I recently changed from Avira Anti-Virus because of good review of MSE from Windows Secrets. I’m still evaluating!

      John S ,

found this link that addresses you particular problem.

If go down a litle ways to what cmahendra wrote, I think it will answer your problem and others that might be having the same issues.

ps… Jack, glad you joined WS.

PS…Let us know when and if you find any answers.

    • in reply to: Camcorder firewire to USB #1257800

Try attaching another USB device to the adapter and see if that works. Also try using the adapter on another computer to see if the adapter is working. As Bender suggested, send us the make and look for drivers for it. You might check the SONY web site for USB drivers.

Try opening your e-mail client program from the source file folder. Then click the upper right corner to make it full screen. Then close it. Now try opening the program from IE. It should open in full screen.

    • in reply to: directory listings #1244318

norm201, if you have not too many files you want placed at the top of the list, remove them from the list then replace them, then use sort by date modified.

Good idea. Unfortunately this does not resolve my particular problem. This is one of those stupid little annoyances that I thought I could resolve. Its not very important. The spreadsheet file is an index to the rest of the file folders in the directory. There are over 400 file folders in the directory and still growing. And as luck would have it, I usually need access to the A through F folds most of the time. I must scroll to the end of the list to get to the spreadsheet or re-order in descending order. Then I must rescan the list to find the particular folder I want access to. In other words I want the Excel sheet file to always be at the top of the list but the file folders in alphabetical order. I know, it’s a rather stupid request but no harm in asking. The upside of asking these type of questions is the neat tricks I get from fellow forum members like you that I can use at other times. Your idea is a good one that I will use in the future. Thanks, Norm.

    • in reply to: Itunes does not sync the ipod under Windows 7 64 #1244117

      Steve,

I’ve been using my 2nd gen iPod in Win 7 64 bit for sometime now. No problem. However, recently my iTunes would no longer work. I had to re-install iTunes to get everything to work as it is suppose to. If your iPod works OK as a stand alone then look to iTunes as being the problem. BTW…uninstalling iTunes is very difficult and must be done in a very specific manner. All Apple /iTunes software including Bonjour must be uninstalled in a certain order to properly delete all registry items. Look up “removing iTunes” on Google before attempting.
      Good luck.
