    • in reply to: How can I mount an ISO in Windows 7? #1188701

Also worth mentioning is that iso files can be opened with applications like 7-Zip and IZarc and any content extracted. Also, if your iso is a DVD movie, programs like VLC can play the movie directly from the iso file without having to mount it.

    • in reply to: Browse for shortcuts – not required in Win 7 ? #1188337

Noticed the same thing. Old shortcuts that pointed C:Program Files still worked even though the app was now in C:Program Files (x86)

      Very nice.

Wendell is correct. As a side note to Office 2010, it will have 32bit and 64bit version. Both will run on 64bit platform. If you install the 64bit version, ALL previous version of Office will have to removed before it will install.

Funny enough, I did have a 32 version of Exchange 2007, but it was designed for non-production testing only 😉

    • in reply to: Adding a ShortCut to the Start Menu #1188331

On my Windows 7, when I drag a shortcut and drop it on the Start button, it creates a pinned item at the top of the main Start menu. If I delete the shortcut from the desktop, the pinned item still works for me. To remove the pinned item I right click on the icon in the start menu and choose ‘Unpin from Start Menu’

Actually, Windows rights the value after every resize or move, not on close, so if you open explorer 1 and 2. Move/resize 2. Close 2. Close 1. Explorer will open to last move/resize of 2.

Note: this is Windows Explorer. Other applications may write the values on close, in fact, that’s what the programs I’ve written do 😉

    • in reply to: Problems with 'Pin to taskbar' & 'Jump' features #1188296

Don’t know if this applies to you, but I recall that if you use some applications to remove the Shortcut Overlay Arrow from shortcut icons, the Pin function may stop working. It has something to do with the IsShortcut value in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTlnkfile being removed or renamed.

In some cases deactivating the arrow for *.LNK files leads to duplicate items in the Explorer context menu as removing the “IsShortcut” effectively forces Windows to treat the shortcut as a real hard file. In Windows 7 this may stop the pin shortcut to Taskbar or Start Menu to stop working.

If this is the case, create a new string value in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTlnkfile called IsShortcut then reboot and see if it fixes the problem.

    • in reply to: Deleted Files Don't Disappear Without Refresh #1188273

I don’t have problems with deleting files in Win7 64 Pro, but sometimes shortcuts I create on the desktop never appear until I refresh. Some people have reported success with some of the following, but I haven’t seen a reason why it is occurring, or a fix that works for everyone…

      1. In Folder Options – View tab: clicking both Reset Folders and Restore Defaults and OK. (Also updated Windows Experience Index)

      2. Deleting everything in the %temp% folder. (Can use CCleaner)

      3. Delete the Windows icon cache.
i -Opening an Administrator command prompt and type CDUsersusernameAppDataLocal (sub account name for username!)
ii -Closing down Explorer by Ctrl-Shift-Right Clicking on the Shutdown menu of the Start Menu and selecting Exit Explorer
iii -In the command prompt type the following commands:

      attrib -h iconcache.db
      del iconcache.db

      – Restart the computer.

Like I said, these are things I haven’t tried, but others have reported fixing the problem.

      Cheers,

    • in reply to: Saving window size(s) and position(s) #1188210

Windows 7 remembers the position/size of the last window that was resized for an application. This becomes a problem when you have multiple instances of Windows Explorer open, as most people like different shortcuts to folders to open in different positions and sizes. I haven’t seen a Windows fix for this besides using 3rd party software.

      Cheers,
