Spooz, there may be a filter set in your email which directs mail to the junk folder. This is not the same as setting the junk mail options to “no filtering”.

Another thing to check: I’m pretty sure this is in Outlook 2007, but I know it is in Outlook 2010:
Click File / Options / Advanced. Under “Outlook Start and Exit”, make sure that “Start Outlook in this folder” is not set to “Junk e-mail”.

I have been looking for a way to filter all my incoming mail into the Junk folder in order to white list and move wanted to mail into proper folders. I have a zillion (well maybe only a million) spam emails incoming that I don’t want to set up a million filters for, and I do want to keep the email address so I don’t have to change all my subscriptions etc. I’m using Outlook 2013 and I see the start in folder in the advanced options. I get far more junk than legit email, and since I want to keep this addy I’ll have to watch my junk ‘leftovers’ by arranging the junk folder to show by name and scan for legit emails and then filter them etc.

Is this a reasonable think to do, are there any potential problems I’ve overlooked here? I’ve asked about doing this in this? and other forums and everyone has said I couldn’t filter all mail into the junk folder and then apply filters to forward the legit emails. The only potential problem I see is that this should work on my PC, but probably not on my cellphone.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

      Thanks,

      Norm

    • Hi, I have a ? regarding backups on Win 7. I do a weekly image and something else that creates individual files as zip files. The zip file backup seems perfect for retrieving individual files (once you find it). But can I recover individual files from the image? I’m a rookie when it comes to backups, and I have never needed to do any kind of recovery yet (knock on wood) so I’m not really sure of what I’m doing. My total backup uses >100GB per week and I’m running out of space. I used to backup to an internal drive, but have switched to an external drive which is offline except when backing up. I have backups going back almost a year, what is a good length of time to store backups for? I’d like to clear the backups off my internal drives and just use the external drive (2GB) which would be around 15-20 full backups (incl. zips if necessary more if not). Would that be sufficient if I do weekly backups? I have never done incremental or differential backups. My PC is extremely stable as I write this so this might be a great time to implement a new strategy.

Another point I’d like to ask is I bought Acronis true image 2014 last year on sale, but then read horror stories about it destroying peoples systems so I never used it. Is there any truth to that, should I use it or stick with Win 7 if I end up just doing Image backups.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide to a backup newbie!

    • in reply to: What to do about email SPAM? #1525855

The easiest solution for me would be to dump all incoming emails to the delete folder, then white list those you do want to the folders you like. Is there any way of doing this? I keep getting more and more junk and filtering each one is a hastle since they keep coming from new/different sources — it’s like my email address is being sold and resold continuously. The idea I would like is becaus my spam to legit is at least 2:1 or worse.

Here’s What Happens When You Install the Top 10 Download.com Apps

WOW! Talk about sleazy. I usually search their site for programs and read the reviews, but I always try to find the authors site for D/L. Thanks for opening my eyes.

Would the use of a sandbox while online stop SPP’s from getting into your OS?
