    • Woody suggested a new procedure today: How to get rid of the ‘Your upgrade to Windows 10 is ready’ lock

Thanks for pointing me to Woody’s article. This is exactly what I was looking for. Haven’t done it yet, but will this weekend. I really appreciate your sending the link. Cheers!

    • Thanks, Eike. Unfortunately I did make the reservation. Now I need to find a way to get rid of the Windows 10 copy that downloaded. MS is more than nagging now. When I boot a second PC, it virtually automatically begins the installation. I’m going to find pro help to get rid of that copy of 10.

How to set your default browser in Windows 10 in just 5 steps

Also available from Firefox: How to change your default browser in Windows 10

Thank you, Bruce. My wife was going nuts. Sigh, it used to be so easy to just make one click to do this.

      Huh?

Please explain further: Why is it virtually impossible to import bookmarks into Edge, and which browser do you really want to use?

Firefox. My wife finally got her bookmarks to load, but the process must be a secret for how to set Firefox as default. She can’t even do a Google search.

Thanks, Susan, for your excellent column. Very helpful. I likely will delay installation of Windows 10 for some period of time. I’m running virtual copy of WinXP within Windows 7 Ultimate in order to use some good but old programs that are still important to me. I need to figure out an alternative to this with a virtual solution of some sort. If not, I may have to wait for Windows 15 as you note.

Wavy, you were right. I uninstalled the XP mode and then reinstalled it. Now it works just fine. I had to reinstall my old programs, but that’s a small price to pay to be back in business. Your comment gave me the encouragement to just go ahead and do it. So thanks for that. I appreciate your help!

I’ve been using Kaspersky Pure 3.0 and am happy to see that they rank well on this survey. But I also use MalWare Bytes in addition to Kaspersky, for the simple reason that they focus on malware attacks specifically. I’ve been very happy with their program and, in fact, it’s saved my wife’s PC from a drive-by attack. I think between the two apps we’re pretty well covered. Thanks for a good article, though. Just another reason to keep subscribing. You folks provide a great service.

I’m especially paranoid and make a complete clone copy of my master hard drive at the end of every month. Since all of my data files are backed up in real time on an external drive, those aren’t usually affected. So if I wind up with an infected hard drive and system, I can overwrite the original hard drive from the clone and, worst case, only have to gather up whatever has changed in the prior 30 days. This has already saved me a lot of money and trouble having to wipe and reinstall the system. Fortunately it doesn’t happen often so it hasn’t been a problem, but it’s a great solution for those rare occasions.
