Be very careful on the install because during the install Office will want to remove any other version currently installed. If that happens you won’t have office 2010 to use after your subscription expires. The way I kept two versions of office on the same machine was to create a new folder under Programs or Programs x86 before the install and do a custom install to that directory. Outlook won’t play well with older versions so I modified the currently installed version to remove Outlook before the new install.

    • The default range that the router assigned was from 2 to 254. I changed the range to be from 200 to 254. The address assigned would be 192.168.1.2xx with the default gateway 192.168.1.1. I limited the range of DHCP assigned IP addresses so I could assign some permanent IP addresses for wireless printers etc. I would also turn off DHCP on the adapter and assign everything manually and still could not ping anything but the IP address assigned, either the manual IP address or the one via DHCP.

    • in reply to: Install Office Enterprise 2007 over Access 2000 #1209779

Office 2007 can be installed and work very nicely with previous version of Office. The process goes like this. (1) Create a folder under Program Files where Office 2007 is going to be installed. You can’t do this during installation. You do have to ability to select where you want to install but you can’t create the location during install. (2) Change your existing install to remove Outlook. Only one version of outlook is allowed. (3) Install Office 2007 using customize, select the folder you created in step 1 and tell the installation NOT to remove any previous Office installation.

After install, you can run either version of Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access. Either version of Excel runs right away. When you run Word, Powerpoint, or Access between the two version, it will go through the process that happens the first time you run an office application after an office install. It wants to go through its first time configuration. Just let it do it.

I have been running Office 2003 Pro and Office 2007 Enterprise since 2007 came out without issue.

I put ubuntu 9.1 on an old Dell latitude. It hooked up to my shared XP folders and printer without issue. Basically the same approach on ubuntu as XP for adding network devices.
