RG, I’m not really back as I am still super pi _ _ ed at the admins for what they did. I was just searching for a Product Key just in case I needed it during installation (did not).

The biggest problem I have with Win 10 so far is the lack of support for Windows Live Mail. I had a significant number of emails stored in storage folders and I do not have access to any of them. That is a real bummer. I have sent FB to MS about that.

I added an icon for IE on my Taskbar as Win Edge does not yet support add-ons and I use Lastpass extensively. Also sent FB about this.

      Medico,

      The product key is:
      8N67H-M3CY9-QT7C4-2TR7M-TXYCV

      Zig

Did not need the product key as the installation found my Win 8.1 key and used that for the in place upgrade.

MS states the updates will be pushed to those registered over the next few weeks. Does not say how they choose who gets it first.

I downloaded the ISO file using the Windows flash drive manager to load a bootable copy on a flash drive. Now I just need the product key to upgrade both PCs.

    • I can’t believe the confusion you just created. It makes perfect sense to me to call the apps Windows Apps or Windows Desktop Apps. How is that going to be confusing. We have Apple Apps and Google Apps and now we will have Windows Apps. Makes perfect sense unless a person is a Windows trasher, then it gives something to rag about. The confusion comes from your confusion, not from MS.

I have often said that drivers, especially graphics drivers should probably be left alone unless there is a specific problem that a user is attempting to fix. The user should then check the PC manufacturer’s site first, and lastly go to the graphics manufacturer’s site. Many of the manufacturer’s drivers are still awaiting certification by MS and the OEM partners and might have unwanted effects on your PC. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” comes to mind!

We have often discussed Cloning and Imaging in these forums. However for simply moving data cloning seems like hunting a mouse with an elephant gun to me. Now if the OP had wanted to move his entire HD, well then Cloning is a highly effective method.

Be careful, Avast is a true AV app, MalwareBytes is not. MalwareBytes is a great add-on to work with your AV app. I might try a different AV app. You say you turned off Avast. If so, WD would not be re-enabled unless you uninstall Avast. When Avast, or any other AV app is installed the default WD is disabled automatically.

I use AVG AV 2013 and see none of these security certificate problems.

I do use IE, in my case IE 11 with Win 8.1.

Unless you have replace the Win 8.1 Start Button with a Start Menu Replacement App as many of us have done. In that case Bruce’s method is the easiest.

If all you wish to do is move the data from one PC to another, the method outlined by DrWho is easy and never fails.

Just look for the same data folders in Win 7 under C/user/”user name”. You will find all the same folders here.

I plug my Ext HD into my PC once per month, create my Image, then run File History. If the proper device is plugged in then File History will find it and all you have to do is choose Run.

You seem to have been trying to fix this since 12/27. I suggest that a reinstallation, even from scratch, could have been accomplished in one day.

Save all your data to an external source, either external media or a separate partition.

Make a list of all your installed apps.

      Reinstall Windows using Reset.

    • in reply to: “IE 11 has stopped working” error message #1432151

I have this notification on any and all sites, and just click out of it. It sometimes happens when closing a tab as well. Funny, it does not occur on my wife’s PC, which is almost identical to mine with the same OS/IE versions. One of these days I will have the time to figure out what is happening, but this is presently a low priority item for me.

    • in reply to: IE doesn’t recognize my Adobe Flash #1432150

In IE 10 and IE 11, flash has become an integral part of IE and is updated through WU, almost monthly. I am unsure if Flash can be removed. I also do not believe Flash can be updated outside of WU in these newer versions of IE..
