Thanks for the welcome, Lyra. I, too, feel that, while this will by no means be the magic wand we all wish we had, it could be a useful tool, providing the legislation is well-crafted. It puts on the books what we ought to be able to take for granted, the right to private and unimpeded use of one’s own data and equipment in one’s own home or business.

I’ve been admiring everyone else’s userpics, and I couldn’t resist the opportunity to look much cooler than I do in real life! cool

Conquery has now been updated too. Nice of their creators to update the extensions so fast after a Mozilla/Firefox update. It’s amazing how quickly one becomes dependent on favorite little tools!

      You’re entirely welcome, Peter.

Thanks for the pointers, Alan. Yes, I use Firefox as my main browser. I decided to go with the bookmark, rather than the reg edit to create a context menu item ( baby steps) but I’m impressed with myself just for managing this little thing! Amazing what you can accomplish when you learn to follow directions (I come from a family that thought even reading directions was for Lesser Mortals grin .) And thanks to you for sharing your talent in creating these aids with the rest of us!

      Big Al –

Thanks for the further guidance. I’ll go over Alan’s instructions in more detail later, but I just wanted to tell you I checked out your website and those grandsons of yours angel angel are just swimming in cute! (Of course, I’d say something LIKE that anyway, but fortunately yours really ARE that cute!) yep

      BigAl –
Thanks for the directions on how to insert a URL. It’s clearly simple, so the hard part would be my remembering to do so! woops I appreciate the gentle reminders. thankyou (You see I’ve mastered the similar, if less informative, smiley insertion.) smile

    • in reply to: Temp folder contents (WinXP SP2) #928251

Thanks, Tony, for the quick reply! I checked out CCleaner and it seems like something I could really use, which would help with other issues as well as this. From my reading here, I’ve come to realize I probably need to do some registry cleaning, but have been hesitant (I am in fearful awe of the registry, as befits someone of rudimentary computer knowledge.) It would be convenient to have one utility for all these housekeeping chores. It seems a new version of CCleaner has just been made available, and a few people have had issues. So, since I have no experience with it, I think I’ll wait a little while to make sure the wrinkles have all been shaken out, then download it. Thanks again.

      Maud thankyou

    • in reply to: Delete extra OE Identity? (OE 6; Win XP SP 2 home) #920992

      Beryl,
Thanks so much for the response. Out of idle curiousity, I tried renaming the folders which contained messages and importing them to my current OE, but the import wizard said it needed something which was in use to make the transfer, as I had OE open to initiate the import. I really didn’t need any of those things anymore, so I closed OE and transferred the unwanted Identity to My Docs and reopened OE, as you suggested, and there was no difficulty with this, so I will simply delete the transferred Identity. Thanks again!

Thanks for the step-by-step. Most of those things I do regularly, but the trouble with learning things piecemeal is you don’t know where the gaps in your knowledge are. For instance, I didn’t even know I had a Prefetch folder! So I’m glad to know how to cover all the bases. Thanks again, everybody, for helping with my education!

Thanks so much, guys, for your thoughtful responses. I’m entirely self-taught about computers and don’t know anyone who knows about this stuff so I’m grateful for this resource. I do a lot of web-surfing but don’t add a lot of files and programs; it seems I don’t have an immediate need to reinstall. I’ve read the posts you referred me to bigaldoc, and will now read the article on slipstreaming SP 2 with Win XP. When I’ve mastered that, I’ll be ready for a future reinstall. Thanks again! clapping
