      Yes

What messages are displayed before the reboot?

      None…looks normal

Have you checked for driver updates for your video card & NIC?

      Nope

Have you run any hardware tests?

      No…not sure how that’s accomplished

      thanks, joe

      joe

      thanks.

there is no card…it’s integrated onto the mobo.

so…I grabbed the broadcom diagnostic utility AND the latest driver from Dell.

      thanks again,

      ok…

      thanks all…

      UPDATE:

The utility BlueScreenView showed me the following:

      STOP: 0x100000d1 (0x48422ecd, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x86203c88)
      NDIS.sys -Address 0xf7698b6c base at 0xf7692000

In the main view, where it highlights problem drivers, it highlighted the following:

      NDIS.sys
      ntoskrnl.exe

      any ideas…??? (& I’m also searching myself)

      thanks again,

      yes Doc…I do that…thanks.

what I’m trying to figure out is WHY that folder wasn’t being purged by Disk Cleanup. That’s the main Temp folder in Windows.

    • in reply to: SOLVED !!! Local Drive reads FULL #1159192

      YEEEEEEAAAAHHHH…!!!

      MAN O MAN…!!!…what a happy f***in’ day this is…ranTreeSize…& look at this:

Windows WAS NOT lying to me…there really WAS that much usage…in the Temp Folder, under OWNER.

Now…something I learned to do a long time ago was to send three important folders to the desktop…’Cookies’, ‘Temporary Internet Files’ & ‘Temp’…to purge on my own from time to time. Turns out the Temp folder on the Desktop on this machine was from ‘Default User’.

So now…after purging 126 GB’s from that folder…the drive looks like this:

wait a minuteIS the Temp Folder under ‘Default User’ the correct one for purging…??? AND…so…why wasn’t this one (under OWNER) being taken care of with Windows Disk Cleanup (or…even by my CCleaner utility, from Piriform) ??? Isn’t it strange that this folder (C:Documents and SettingsOwnerLocal SettingsTemp) would be so full ? Now I’m wondering about all this.

(but I’m still very happy…thanks everyone & thanks BATcher…I’m throwing a beef barbecue for you, man…all the red meat you can eat!) This is great.

      thanks again,

      mf

    • in reply to: SOLVED !!! Local Drive reads FULL #1159162

      thanks BATcher

everybody else…there is NO ‘Winlogon’ in my Event Viewer…or anything that remotely resembles a chkdsk log. What you’re seeing in my screenshot is what it is…not sure what you’re asking me to do…running out of options…ready to pull out the sledge hammer, or worse yet…just plain quit trying to make music. never had anything but bad luck & weird problems w/ IBM-based PCs & Windows OS’s. maybe it’s time for a mac.

    • in reply to: SOLVED !!! Local Drive reads FULL #1159135

Since Dr. Watson seems to be involved here, you might want to take a look at the Dr. Watson Log files located at WindowsDrwatsonWatsonxxx.wlg and see if that gives you any insight

thanks…that was back on the 30th…but I’ll do it.

where is the ChkDsk log, anyway ???

      thanks again,

      mf

      btw…also wondering why SpaceSniffer wouldn’t run…that’s odd.

    • in reply to: SOLVED !!! Local Drive reads FULL #1159125

      ok…

      1) SpaceSniffer would not run…got this error:

      2) Results of Event Viewer…(only because I sure as heck can’t decipher them):

don’t see anything relative to Check Disk here, either

      3) Interesting take on the drive itself going whacky…didn’t weigh heavy on my considerations…possibility, tho.

      thanks again,

      mf

can always rely on good info here…will try these tools & get back.

    • in reply to: Mystery Startup Item in msconfig #1156755

      Autoruns didn’t work.

Someone else suggested running MSINFO32, however…which did work; & pointed to a program I have called ‘Registry Mechanic’.

(have no idea why it needed to load at startup, but I disabled that function, nonetheless).

      Thanks,

      mark4man

btw – thanks for the tip on the image file upload…I’m so used to using my own server for everything I must have missed that.

    • in reply to: How Do I Now Go Back (to OE…from Live Mail) ??? #1155157

      joe…

someone suggested creating a Live account…storing my .csv there…& signing in to Live when I open Live Mail. I’m trying that now…will let you know if it works.

      thanks,

      mf

btw – not real happy about now having my contacts on the internet…but I guess it’s safe

    • in reply to: How Do I Now Go Back (to OE…from Live Mail) ??? #1155018

well…the guy responding to the the thread that uses XP Pro SP3 would be me…but his reply is a bit confusing. he does state, however…that his contacts appear in both locations:

My Contacts now all show in:

C:Documents and SettingsUserLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftWindows Live MailContacts

      AND:

C:Documents and SettingsUserLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftWindows Live Contacts

then he goes on to say that he imported using the “Import Address Book For Current Windows User”…but that still doesn’t work.

I do not have any “Contacts” folder in my Windows Live Mail folder…but all the individual contacts folders are in there, along w/ a bunch of log files.

In my Windows Live Contacts folder, I have a bunch of empty, long-name folders

      thanks,

      mf

    • in reply to: How Do I Now Go Back (to OE…from Live Mail) ??? #1154912

      my man, Joe…

Figured out the eroneous error message in Live Mail. The error message read as follows:

Unable to send or receive messages from the myusername account. The host ‘pop.mydomain.com’ could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.

      Server: ‘pop.,mydomain.com’
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0D
      Protocol: POP3
      Port: 110
      Secure(SSL): No
      Socket Error: 11001

There was a stupid comma in the server name…my bad.

I may stay w/ Live Mail after all…OE seems a bit old hat (after experiencing all those transparent, Vista style windows & the separate account folders & what not).

thanks fer all yer help, man…

      mark4man

btw…almost forgot…how can I fix the problem of always loosing my Contacts. that’s a biggie…& needs to be solved

    • in reply to: How Do I Now Go Back (to OE…from Live Mail) ??? #1154604

no…but…I don’t care about fixing ‘Live Mail’ anymore. I just want to go back to OE.
