(Edited by Kel on 24-Apr-03 10:07. to adjust for tone)

      Well,

I implemented your instructions; & they didn’t work. I recently set up my new Dell 8250; & had previously saved all my favorite links to CD-R. On the new machine, I navigated to the Favorites folder [C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGsystemprofileFavorites (w/ a star)]; & copied the links there (as I was instructed.) They’re not available in either “Favorites” in IE (& there’s two…one on the Menu Bar, w/ dropdowns…& one on the Toolbar, a button w/ a star.) They’re in the Favorites folder I copied them to, but nowhere to be found in Internet Explorer.

      Any Ideas?

      Thanks everybody.

Took a closer look at the detail, by scrolling various text based documents up & down the screen. There were 2 or 3 lateral bands…thin horizontal strips…where the text was very blurry as it scrolled through.

I phoned Dell hardware support; & they said that meant there was a definite problem with the monitor. They are replacing it!

      Thanks again,

      kip,

That’s why I like this board…guys like you & Wyly.

I’m giving my old secondary drive away (after it’s dumped out), to one of my PC musician buddies (so he can also have a separate source for his audio files)…but I’ll definately use that method…gotta be way better than networking.

Thanks very much (& also: thanks Wyly),

    • in reply to: Old PC to New PC – Backup, Network; or Drive Swap? #668288

      Guys,

      Thanks.

      kip,

Is there any way to transfer everything to a “new” secondary drive using method B? In other words…I get the new PC & install a new secondary drive…& then hookup the old secondary drive (via the extra connector on the ribbon cable system); & move files from old secondary drive to new secondary drive?

My intention is to have a new secondary drive in the new PC; & I was hoping to avoid a double transfer (most of my really important files are digital audio, both .wav & proprietary, which will be used in the near future for pre-mastering to CD for bulk replication & eventual sales.) Needless to say, they have to remain in perfect condition. If I use the basic master & slave method, those files will be first transferred to the new PC’s primary drive; & then to over to a new secondary drive, when it’s installed. Should I be concerned about double transfer; & can my double slave scenario be accommodated?

      Thanks,

      Thanks all,

Resampling to 96 ppi worked (as did unchecking Auto Image Resizing.)

    • in reply to: Default CD Audio Player (98SE) #650171

      kaplinb,

      Thanks.

I thought I had actually solved the problem by replacing the TDK’s startup app back into the msconfig startup group. Windows then recognized the drive; & I was able to select it as my default music CD player (& I understand what you’re saying relative to “data is data/sound quality”, but 1/2 of the issue was also having the better drive as my default audio CD player. As you probably know, CD ROM drives are the pits for playing audio CD’s. The default CD ROM drive in my Dell causes music CD’s to actually skip…as in, audible gaps in the playback. It’s not damaged, it’s just cheap. And of course, CD ROM’s use block read, as oposed to syncronous read.)

Anyway, as it turns out, Windows only recognizes the better drive when it’s switched on at startup (as you were referring to.) I’m not sure if that’s normal behavior or not, so maybe I need to reinstall the drivers.

      Thanks again,

    • in reply to: Desktop Background (98SE) #647448

      Drew & Big Al,

Thanks. I tried Al’s fix; & it worked! (amazingly, when I went back & checked, the image was gone from the Wallpaper list.) Another response at another board informed me the best way to load wallpaper images: is to drag-&-drop them directly into the Windows folder. I thought perhaps they were mistaken, in that there was probably a subfolder within Windows for the images, but when I checked, they were absolutely right. Funny thing is, before I used Al’s method, I checked that folder (Windows); & the image I had loaded by browsing wasn’t there. That tells me the drag-&-drop method is the correct method.

      Thanks again,

    • in reply to: InstallShield? #642260

      WyllyWylly,

Thanks. WinDoctor can’t fix it…there’s nothing to fix, in that the error is relative to a file rendered unusable due to lack of a specific framework. I just didn’t want to delete something important (the InstallShield itself), but your answer regarding the fact that it’s a third-party app solved that.

I’m not sure. It’s part of “Properties” for the report.

    • in reply to: Saving Table Data For Reports (2000) #640222

      Wendell,

Sorry it took so long to get back…I’ve been busy. Thanks for the response. The database is an .mdb. The report is run from the Database Window (runs a query to generate); & contains data from the table’s fields. It was created with the report wizard (in design view) from the field list. In other words, everything is sort of standard.

In report properties, I noticed that “Event procedures” is set to “On Open.” Here’s what I perceive to be the problem. (I could have swore under the old system, that) I could have both the table & the report open & bounce back & forth between the two, alternately saving data in the table & then printing new reports which contained the new data. Is that possible? Now, with the new system, I save the new table data, then open the report; & it’s there. If I leave the report open, the new data is not updated when I save in the table.

It seems to me after taking a closer look that, because the report generates by query, it couldn’t have saved data available immediately, without running the query upon opening? Although, I really thought I had had that capability.

      Thanks in advance,

Sorry for that last post, folks. I changed my background color formatting (from black to default white), placed a text box around the entire first page, layered it fully back; & filled it with black. Should have figured that one out prior to posting.
