If as you say your Webmaster is knowledgeable I would suggest Expression Web 4 from Microsoft which is free and well worth a try. You will find the download at: http://www.microsoft.com/en-GB/download/details.aspx?id=36179

I take Joe’s point that you are not referring to the code on which the site is based.

    • in reply to: Intel controller #1312521

I don’t have Windows Vista but for basic system information try Start | Control Panel | System which is where it is in Windows 7. Also from the Start menu try opening Accessories | System Tools | System Information.

As the driver is an Intel update have you looked on the Intel Websitefor a manufacturer’s version? At least the driver from Windows Update must be MS certified. And if you were to install the offered driver and it resulted in a problem you could use System Restore to roll-back to the pre-install state.

My sincere apologies for the tardy response. I see there is a tick box setting on the General tab: Include this account when receiving mail or synchronising. That must be the setting you are referring to in your response. Please accept my thanks.

    • in reply to: CSS error checking: an impossible dream? #1271382

In Firefox I use two extensions HTML Validator 0.8.6.1 and Web Developer 1.1.9. The latter has tools for viewing and checking the CSS being used in any Webpage.

Also as well as the HTML Validation – W3C Markup Validation Service at http://validator.w3.org/check – there is a CSS Validation Service at http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

You can try installing Apple – Safari – Download Safari – Download the world’s fastest and most innovative browser for Mac and PC[/url].

      Joe

Joe, thank you your suggestion. I have downloaded Safari and the installation aborts with the error message:

X The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation

As I am the sole user of my computer with administrator rights I haven’t set any restrictions on the installation of .exe or any other files. Do you happen to know what this message is really telling me?

      Added

Success! I found a tip to turn off UAC and did so, rebooted and Safari install was completed. I have viewed the .webarchive file and would like to thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction.

Excuse my intruding, MalcolmWalker, I want to look the StuartR’s checklist

I see Joe has responded already. Good luck with your checks!

Glad you got it working. Thanks for posting back.

Good luck with the wireless connection. We’ll be here if you need assistance.

      Joe

Thank you Joe – I was able to achieve a wireless connection without too much trouble. I’m chuffticated as we say in Liverpool!

I believe the problem is solved. I worked through StuartR’s check list and at the end there are two items for NET VIEW. These showed that the server on my desktop was not running. I changed its settings from manual to automatic and started it. And my Desktop appeared on my notebook!

Dave my thanks for your interest and encouragement also Joe Perez. And a thank you to StuartR for the check list. Perhaps I’ll also be able to connect by wireless? I’m hoping

Vista and Windows 7 likes to have the SAME windows user name and passwords on all networked machines. It sure does works very smooth when one does it this way.

But if you don’t want to use the same account and passwords, then enter a user name and password that is on the “Other” machine and you may get in. A account with NO password may not work at all.

Dave – Thank you. I was working through StuartR’s check list when I received your message and had just reached the very point of the same user names and passwords on each computer.

Having set common user names and passwords I have logged-in with no change to the previous behaviour. I still have a one-way connection. Btw inbetween times I have upgraded my notebook to Windows 7 Home Premium.

It is past time for me to retire – I will resume the struggle later today!

If you are try to connect to the desktop PC, it is a username and password that has access to the desktop PC.

      Joe

I don’t log-in to either of these computers. And I am most reluctant to do strart doing so. I wonder if there is a workaround?

      Malcolm

Notwithstanding I set a password for my Desktop and rebooting I had to log-in. I then tried to connect my laptop to the network and in the Authentication dialogue my Desktop user name and password were not accepted. I still have a one-way Ethernet connection but that doesn’t meet my needs.

See How to get LLTD to work in SP3 for instructions.

      Joe

Thank you for the pointer Joe; I now have the Responder on my Desktop.

Unfortunately I have met with another problem. Trying to make a fresh start I deleted the network from my notebook. Now when I click connect to my network the following is displayed:
      _________________
      Windows Security
      Network Authentication
      Please enter user credentials
      Username
      Password
      __________________

I have tried several combinations of usernames and password known to me without sucess and I would like to know what comprises these credentials.

      Check your firwall settings.

Thank you for your reply but Windows firewalls are off and there are no third party firewalls.

    • in reply to: Adobe Acrobat 5 – Saving edited files #1176917

Adobe Acobat can certainly do this, but Acrobat 5 is so old that it is unlikely you will find support for it any more. I can confirm that it definitely works using Acrobat 8, and I am pretty sure I used to do it years ago when I had version 5.

Seven years really isn’t very old; that is compared to my age. But I do take your point! As Ian, in his response has pointed me in the right direction I am now smiling. {8;-))

      Thank you for your reply,

But what DID work was (3) on the Document menu, I chose the Rotate pages… option, then saved, and the next time I opened it, the change had stuck.

I hope that is some help to you.

      Ian

It most certainly is a great deal of help to me as it sticks for the page I have rotated and saved. Thank you very much for your assistance – it is very much appreciated.

You could use VBA code but it has a serious disadvantage: it will disable the undo feature, so it’ll be more difficult to correct mistakes.

      See the attached sample workbook.

      Hans,

Thank you – disadvantage noted. I will pass this on with a suitable acknowledgment of your assistance.
