Thanks for that- I’ve had a quick look but can’t find anything with that ref you gave. Can you speak to your IT friend and find out if he knows what the mobo model is, or failing that, what CPU socket and mobo chipset it uses?

Hi Jim and welcome to the lounge!

We need a little more information before we can give any sort if useful answer I’m afraid. The speaker that you mentioned will give a single beep if everything is okay during POST (Power On Self Test) but will give different beep sequences if there is a problem.

Unfortunately, there is no ‘standard’ beep sequence definition as different BIOS/mobos will give different beeps for the same problem. Really we need to know what the make & model of your motherboard is (this can often be found by checking the motherboard directly and googling for any serial numbers or model numbers that you find).

      Good luck!

      Hi Joe

Ok, we need a little more information first, because I think we’re heading at this from the wrong direction. You say when you install a game it goes “very very slow”. Do you mean the install is slow, or when you actually come to play the game, it’s jerky and slow?

What sort of games are you trying to play? (3D? 2D? old? new?) Can you give us some titles? I think the issue may be that you have Intel Extreme integrated graphics. This chipset really isn’t suited for games and may well be the cause of the symptoms you describe.

Following on from Leif’s solution, you could then install something like X-Teq’s X-Setup to hide certain or all tabs from the Internet Options dialog.

How ‘restricted’ are we talking here?

    • in reply to: Problem opening 3 1/2 floppys #994445

Do you have an anti-virus program that scans files when you try to open them? As floppies are so slow, this could be causing the symptoms you describe.

You probably can’t delete the registry key because of security restrictions. Are you logged in as an Administrator? If not, that’s likely to be why you get the error.

Also, is it a wireless mouse, or a cabled one?

      Thanks Bob thumbup

And yes John, Partition Manager is by Paragon & works really well. Does exactly what it says on the tin a few other things besides (check Bob’s link…. grin)

    • in reply to: ‘One-Time’ Partitioning? #976745

Hope you get your problem sorted John. For anyone in the UK who wants to do a similar thing, this months issue of PC Pro magazine has both Partition Manager & Migrate Easy on their cover DVD to sort out all your partitioning/drive data transferring needs!

(I know it’s cheeky but if someone can find the URLs for those two products and add them to the post it would be much appreciated grin. No web access here… thankyou)
