I haven’t used CASE recently so I looked in my ASP book. When you use SELECT CASE, you need to preface each case with the word CASE. For your information, it would be something like this:
      Select Case Request.ServerVariables(“LOGON_USER”)
      Case “ABCUSERNAMEA”:
      Case “ABCUSERNAMEB”:
      Case “ABCUSERNAMEC”:
      End Select

Obviously I haven’t tested this but this might help.

      Karen,

Go to Tools, Services, Addressing, Select Contacts for “When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following order”.

We worked in the “Corporate/Workgroup” environment. I don’t know what the settings are if you are using the “Internet Only Mode”.

I hope this helps. I know that Woody’s is a valuable resource that I’m glad I can use!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this issue.

Our solution is as follows: My boss saves the new contact as formatted by Outlook (with the Full Name as Last, Last). He then reopens the contact, changes the Full Name to Last, First and then saves the change. Outlook doesn’t automically make this change for him (see bolded information below). My boss knows this is cumbersome but he is willing to live with it. He didn’t want to “waste” his time any longer trying to fix this problem. (In our environment, sometimes it’s easier to use a “kludge” rather than going through the proper channels to reload software, etc. – It’s hard to believe but true!)

The interesting part is that I finally found this problem in the MS Knowledge Base (319767) while I was researching a different problem. Although the article is dated 11/22/02, I certainly didn’t find it in early December 02! Here’s their description of the problem and their fix for the problem:

If you click the Address Book button, right-click a name, and then click Add to Personal Address Book in a new contact, the contact’s name appears as “Last, Last” (without quotation marks) instead of “Last, First” (without quotation marks) in the Full Name box. But, if you click Save and Close, the contact’s name appears correctly as “Last, First” in your Contact folder.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).”

I know that we’re not going to SP-3 any time soon!

      Thanks for the suggestions. thankyou

We have already ruled out the Exchange server issue. He’s the only one on the Exchange server at our facility experiencing this problem. I don’t have experience with the Palm setup nope to know whether or not it is causing the problem but I’ll check into that one.

I had already decided that see if the IPM.Contact form had gotten corrupted when comes to parsing the information to create the Full Name field. So, I’m going to also pursue that. Sometimes I’ve found that Detect and Repair doesn’t (if you get my drift). grin As I mentioned, the Full Name field appears as Last Last. The odd part is when you double click on it and get the Check Full Name dialog box, though, it has the correct First Name and correct Last Name.

The other interesting (or should I say frustrating) part is that the Select Names dialog box wasn’t alphabetizing the names! The Contacts Address Card view does have them alphabetized so it isn’t a view issue. I had already reset the Views to the default settings.

Yesterday afternoon, I had him rescan his C: drive to see if he had a virus lurking in there. hiding The virus scan came back saying it scanned clean – it didn’t find anything. Well, that must have done something because this morning the Select Names dialog box is now alphabetized. Unfortunately it didn’t solve the other problems.

One down – several to go! I’ll post back the results of the “Detect and Repair”! We’ll also try setting up a new profile on another machine. I’m sure it will be fine!

      Thanks again.

      Thanks for responding so quickly.

I, too, was surprised that he would add names from the GAL to his Contacts. He did this for two reasons. We work at the Department of Veterans Affairs and our GAL contains thousands and thousands of names. By putting the names he uses often into his Contacts, it takes less time to resolve John Doe into John.Doe@med.va.gov. He changed the default addressing settings so his Contacts folder is the first folder that Outlook looks for addresses.

The other reason he puts the names into Contacts from the GAL is for synching with the Palm. That way he can create the emails in the Palm.

I already checked Views and he is using the “Address Card” view with no other filters.

In Outlook 2000, go to Tools, Options, Preferences, Calendar Options (see attached file). There you can set the starting and ending times in addition to the first day of the week. I’ll be honest, though, that I don’t know how well it handles a work day that spans across two calendar days. confused

You can keep your default as HTML. Then when you want to send in RTF, click on Actions, New Mail Message Using, trace over and down to Microsoft Outlook Rich Text Format. I find this is really handy.

    • in reply to: Layers #583179

This is my take on layers. Working at the VA we need to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Layers can definitely be a problem in complying with that Act. Screen readers have a very difficult time determining what you are doing with layers.

The other issue I have with layers is that when printing the page, layers don’t always print where you think they will or where you would want them to print.

I started using layers last year and thought they were so cool. cool Using them definitely helped reduce the number of clicks for my users to get further into our website (quick navigation that is so important). Unfortunately, I have to redo my work because of the issues listed above. shrug

    • in reply to: Full Screen Problem #578016

As a fairly new web designer with limited javascript training, I knew there had to be a way to add back in the minimize, maximize and resize buttons. I’m glad to have a QUICK link to use for that information! clapping

While I agree that I hate someone completely controlling my window size, too, John was trying to provide his web viewers an option to his full screen. That’s why he asked for the code to provide that customization.

That’s the beauty of Woody’s Lounge – it gives us less experienced users help to provide the best product we can (and know we should be able to provide)! I’m very glad that I have such a wonderful resource!
      bravo

    • in reply to: W2K Can’t Find Access 2000 Database File #574737

Actually our current desktop shortcut uses that code. Just to be sure, though, I copied your code and pasted it into the cmd line (from run). We get the same message that Microsoft Access can’t find the database file. I even tried creating a new desktop shortcut with the pasted code as the target and got the same message. In fact one of my tries to solve this problem, I created a new shortcut from the desktop, used browse to locate the file. I then clicked on the new shortcut and got a message from windows saying that the target was no longer correct and I allowed it to fix it. (See new attached file.)

I know there has to be something about the way Windows 2000 was setup at the Albuquerque VA since users at other VA sites don’t have this problem. scratch

      I appreciate the assistance!

    • in reply to: Forgotten Password! (Excel 2000) #571326

No, I didn’t. It seems that the systems folks decided to remotely play with our PCs over the weekend and restarted my PC. We’ve since decided not to worry about the information in the file – it’s probably inaccurate anyway. It would probably take us longer to verify what’s in the file than to simply start over from scratch!

    • in reply to: Forgotten Password! (Excel 2000) #570599

Thanks to both of you for the help! I simply didn’t think to look at the menu bar! blush
Boy, you weren’t kidding about it taking a LOOOONG time. I’ve started the process and hope to have good results by Monday! crossfingers (The password was created by a verified schizophrenic previous employee. So, guessing isn’t even appropriate on this one!) Thanks again.

P.S. I just love having this resource available!

    • in reply to: Forgotten Password! (Excel 2000) #570331

I have a user who has to work with a file that was password protected (within Excel 2000) by a previous employee. I was so glad to see that there was already a thread on this topic.

I did go and download the “add-in” that you suggested. I went into Tools, Add-ins and selected it. How do I get it to work? Obviously, I can’t open the file I need because of the password and I can’t seem to figure out how to make the add-in look at the file.

I appreciate any help you can provide! heart (Happy Valentine’s Day)

    • in reply to: Viewing all-day events (2000 SR1) #557778

I experienced this problem in other views. While the following KB article doesn’t specifically address your situation it might be of some value and might provide the answer you’re looking for. compute

OL2000: Cannot Show More Than 12 All Day Events in Day View (Q197324) The display area of the screen limits the number of events that can be viewed. The amount of information viewable in the display area is determined by the Resolution setting in Control Panel.

    • in reply to: Completed Tasks (2000) #550064

Yes, there are ways to change how you view completed tasks.
Did you know that you can view only completed tasks? If not, click on View, Current View, Completed Tasks. The completed tasks do NOT have the “strikeout” feature in that view.

But assuming that you are viewing completed tasks along with active tasks, you can still make changes. Here’s the way I know:
      1. You need to be Tasks (obviously)
      2. Right click on one of the column headings (such as subject or due date)
      3. Click on Customize Current View
      4. Click on Automatic Formatting
      5. Select the “Completed and Unread Tasks” (or “Completed and Read Tasks”)
      6. Click on Font
      7. Uncheck “Strikeout” effect
      8. Then use the color feature to choose the appropriate color.

You will probably want to do this for both of the “Completed … ” rules. I hope this helps. clown
