I have attached a dummy index page.

      To answer your questions:

The hyperlinks open the template, not a new doc. Therefore, as jscher 2000 says, you have to make the template read-only, which is really no big deal. There is probably a way to code to open a new doc, I am not experienced enough to write it. There also may be a switch that could be added to the end of the hyperlink to make a new doc open.

As stated in a previous post, the best features about this method of distributing access to templates is that you can be very descriptive of what the templates are for and you can organize them so it is relatively easy to find the templates you need.

I haven’t attached a document to this forum before, so I hope it works. Any questions, just ask.

Sorry I haven’t responded sooner, I have been fighting the flu.

Later today I will try to attached a dummy “index.htm” page for you all to evaluate and try to answer your questions.

What we have done is to set up a Word document that contains hyperlinks to templates. The document acts like an index.htm web page. The opening page can have links that are linked to bookmarks within the document. The opening page links would be names of categories of templates. When you click on a category, it goes to a list of links listed under the category name. Clicking on one of these links would open a template.

The nice thing about this approach is that you can use a descriptive name for the links and can even add an explanation under the link to describe what the template is used for.

Brian, in what location is the .ldb file created? The database resides on a network server in a particular folder. When a user opens the database, is the .ldb file created in the same folder? If another user opens the same database, is an .ldb file created for the new user?

I have opened the .ldb files using Notepad. It contains the name of a machine and Admin or admin. It may contain one machine name or more. Could there be a conflict with the machine names/Admin and admin in the .ldb file?

Charlotte, I don’t think there have been any design changes or updates of jet service packs. This database has very little code.

Brian, I know what an .ldb file is but am not sure what “orphan” means. The network folder only contains one .ldb file that carries the same name as the database. On the users c: drive, there are a lot of .ldb files, but none have the same name as the network copy. From what I have read, the .ldb file is created each time the database is loaded (since Jet 3.0). Could it be that the .ldb files on their c: drives are interfering with the network copy? I have a feeling that they don’t. Anyway, let’s not give up. There has to be a reason for this behavior.

OK, we will look for .ldb files. We have not done a Jetcomp.

Yes, Andy. We ran a database repair and compacted it.

Geoff, you got it right. It works perfectly. I am sorry but I don’t have a version of the code that didn’t work.

Chas, I did put it in a global template so it can be distributed to those that need it.

      This lounge is the greatest.

      Thanks to both of you.

Thanks. I tried this code and it worked, sort of. I attached the code to a toolbar button. The first time it ran, it continued to loop between the input box and the message box. I cut out the If..Then..Else and tried it, but it gave an Error Code 5152-cannot recognize file name. Debug highlighted the line containing “c:temp”. It seems that I read that path names in VBA need double back slashes, so I changed it to “c:temp” and it did save the document, but it also gave the 5152 error. I will keep working on it. It is real close.

      Thanks.

Perfect. I am using the outline numbering. It appears to work just like it should. Thank you for such a quick response.
