There is a check box a the top of the AutoPlay screen which is for using AutoPlay for all media and devices. When that box is checked, my problem was solved.

The Fix it to repair Autoplay is only for 32 bit systems – my system is 64 bit.

      Hi, Jim

I just ordered a Seagate 1TB SATA 30 Desktop 3.5 inch internal hard which should arrive at my home tomorrow. I ordered it from Staples, so if it doesn’t fit or work out, I can return it to the local store for a full refund. My only concern at this point is the space and connections in my computer. Hopefully everything will work out. Comments?

      Hi, Jim

I guess I’ll accept your suggestion and buy a SATA drive. Presumably it’ll fit in the same space as my current drive.

I’m running Win7 SP1 and I assume the DVD drive id IDE. I’ll have to open the system case to check cable connections. I’ll do that tomorrow and get back to you then. (I lived in Phelps, Wisconsin a while ago.).

Everything in Device Manager (including the DVD RW)shows up to be “Working correctly”.

RolandJS – Perhaps Win7 Pro gives you a “pop-up” if it can’t read an external drive. However Win7 Home Premium does not have that facility or capability. So I didn’t get an option to have Win7 fix the problem – which eventually was fixed the “hard way”. But thanks for your response.

I formatted the problem drive and stored a system image on it. Everything’s fine now! Problem’s solved. Thanks for your guidance and input. You guys are great!
