I wasted some considerable time with this process and at the end, it would not load the win 8 iso. It only told me that there was no version of an operating system on my virtual drive and presented no means to acquire one. I tried several things and gave up. I have uninstalled Vbox and trashed the win8 iso. I’m not real happy.

Yu posted a note about checking carefully for the box/ place to opt out of unwanted software when downloading other software. I recently found one that required checking the advanced download version before you would see the box to opt out. Fortunately, someone tipped me off to this situation before I downloaded it, as I usually don’t use the advanced version.

Further in the column you talked about not separating user data as it causes problems with upgrading Win7. I often install applications on another partition to avoid having to reinstall them, but find that Win7 can’t find my apps after upgrades. All the data is there, but the OS has no idea that the app was installed.

Just downloaded and installed Foxit. Did not ask me to place eBay links on my computer and did not put any there. Maybe Aunt Myrtle is a shopaholic and they gleaned that from her history. I used to use Foxit a while ago, but tried pdf Xviewer. It does have a lot of options, but it’s confusing and not as light as Foxit. I like Foxit’s simplicity.

Hi Tracy. Hope your recovery is quick.
I have a somewhat similar problem – a database on a website for a community of people that needs a good interface for updating specific information about meetings. Similar to your problem, I don’t want these folks to see all the data in the dB, but they need to be able to see their own easily. I would be nice if it were readily available as soon as they put in some trivial amount of data about who or where they are. I’m curious to know how you solve your problem, as it might work for our situation as well. We’re just starting to look into this, so I am a way from implementing any kind of solution and haven’t yet fully developed the problem description.

      thanks
