Hi Joe, I’ve removed Revo since it seems not to be useful in Win 10x64bit.
Hi Bruce, I’ve tried to follow the instructions from the tutorial you referred me to. The first step, deleting the basic program using the control panel, I had already completed. I have run AdwCleaner and its scan found nothing. I also ran the free MalwareBytes program and it also found nothing. I’m guessing that the Tweaking.com which you referred me to in the Win 10 Forum must have already gotten all of the Reimage Repair trash out of my registry. I’m inclined to take no further action until something pops up to hint that I’m in trouble.

Thanks for all the good input, folks.

Hi, RG. I downloaded and ran the free version of RevoUninstaller which could not see Reimage Repair, even though it was visible in the Win control panel uninstall application. I went back to the Win control panel uninstall and fiddled with it. Eventually, it offered some troubleshooting dialogs and I finally managed to get the uninstall routine to run and RR no longer is visible in the uninstall app. Keep in mind that I had run Tweaking.dot com between the time I tried to run Reimage Repair and started trying to uninstall it. Could the changes that Tweaking.com made to the registry have cleaned out the Reimage Repair detritus already? Am I now safe?

I’m about to run the free Malwarebytes once again out of an abundance of caution.

I managed to install Win 10 just fine; but, the system got corrupted after a few days. One of the moderators referred me to tweaking.com which did a slick job of sorting my machine out. I also am singing that tool’s praises. Glad that you had good results, moondoggy.

    • Success! I ran the tweaking.com program through once (long wait) and rebooted the computer. Windows store and solitaire both open now. And, the system update function seems to be back online.

The tweaking.com instructions suggested running the program twice — just to be sure. Do you think that I should do that, considering that all seems to be working?

Thank you so much for your patient guidance.

    • Yes, I finally realized that I had not downloaded the right program. I’ve since gotten the program you meant for me to download and it’s running now (I’m writing this from my other machine). I’ll get back with the results once it finishes. Thanks for your patience.

    • Hi Jerry,

I downloaded the Reimage Repair file and ran it. It began its analysis and then returned a repair error message in a balloon at the bottom-right corner of the screen and nothing else happened. Have you any thoughts?

    • I think that I may have shot myself in the foot fooling with this problem. I found a YouTube article which directly addresses this problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQqZggaUPSA

It involves opening Windows Services and resetting the Windows Update service. It did not work. At one point, I was offered the choice to restart the service which I attempted. It timed out with the comment that the service had not stopped in a timely manner. Now, the status for that service is “stopping” and I can’t do anything with it. I did try troubleshooter which claimed to have performed some fixes; but, no joy.

What should I do next? It almost looks as if I should roll back to Win 8.1 and then try Win 10 again in a few days.

    • Thanks for that reply, Bruce. It gives hope that things wills sort themselves out over the next couple of days.

    • Hi Bruce,
I tried the troubleshooter and it found no defects. Any further thoughts?

Thanks, Michael! Your advice worked perfectly. Actually, your method is quite straight forward — but, very little in Photoshop is particularly intuitive. Your description got me where I needed to go.

    • in reply to: How do I disable mouse from calling up charms? #1422195

Thanks for your replies. As it turns out an edition of the Windows Secrets newsletter came out with detailed advice on downloading Win 8.1; so, I decided that it would be safe to give it a go. It worked out just fine and I was able to disable the mouse in the corner. My problem is completely solved.

    • When the dialog boxes popped up again, I entered the must current Google password and told it to save the password. That seemed to quell the problem and the stuck message also went out. To be really thorough, I opened the mail configuration app in Outlook and entered the current password for Google for both SMTP and POP and clicked on the check box to save it. Things now seem to be working just fine. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks, folks! I tried Jock’s method first and it worked like a charm. Windows Secrets Lounge has gotten me out of several tight spots and I really appreciate your help.

Aha! It worked. With all of your replies in hand, I waded into the project using the web site Rui recommended and found the process quite simple once I got going. Thanks to all of you for your help.

Those instructions look very detailed and straight-forward to follow. However, they don’t answer my basic question: if I set Contact up to service my Gmail account, will I still be able to also send and receive emails from Contact for my ISP email account? Can I have both email accounts loaded into Contact and use them interchangeably?
