      would a query do instead of a report? you could create a summary or totals query that would group your appointments into their dates and times.

      in query design view, bring down onto the QBE grid 3 fields:
      appt date, appt time, and one other field .
      go to the View menu, choose totals, and a new row is added to the QBE grid.
      leave it saying “group by” for the date field and the time field.
      for the third field choose count.
      that should give you your totals for each time slot (nb it won’t show time slots with zero appts)
      to specify a range of dates, you would be best off with a parameter query.

      you could also try creating it as a form and printing that.
