      Thanks. It’s been a long time coming…

      Aha!

    • in reply to: AVG–a silly question #950353

It’s not a silly question at all. I just checked my AVG Virus Vault, and found a button labeled ‘Wipe Objects’. I believe what you would do is to highlight the trojan in question, then click the Wipe Objects button, but, since I have nothing in the vault, I can not be absolutely sure as to the veracity of my answer. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the effort. Much appreciated.

    • in reply to: Firewall problem with AOL #950277

Since you already use AOL, why not simply download the new AOL 9 Security version? It comes with a pre-configured firewall. You can get it here: http://www.aol.com/product/firewall.adp%5B/url%5D BTW, prior to ZoneAlarm 5.1, there were problems with AOL. If your ZoneAlarm is new, there shouldn’t be any issues with AOL.

Thanks for the starpost by Alan Miller. Incidentally, I use Firefox, but had briefly opened up IE 6 when I saw a notice in the 1-Click TagPanel Help file that said something about other browsers putting the tags at the end, so I thought I’d try using the browser they recommended. Hated to open IE, but had to try it.

      Ian,
Their FAQ is correct. I just installed AVG Free version seven on an older Win98 machine, and wasn’t required to provide a serial number; it was pre-defined and entered itself automatically upon installation of the program. So, unlike version six, version seven really doesn’t require registration.
BTW, AVG has a beta version of their freeware antivirus that includes a firewall. Should anyone wish to try it out, the URL is

    • in reply to: AdAware 1.06 #950255

Sorry ’bout that. Mea culpa. I’ll post links in the future, Bigaldoc. Not a problem. I should mention that when you click the ‘Check for Updates’ link from within AdAware, it launches your browser and takes you to the Lavasoft site, where you can download the new version..

    • in reply to: CODECS for Windows Media player #950140

Thanks, aenigma! I’d seen a reference to the K-Lite codecs, but had never tried them. The full version works very well in XP Pro, and does wonders for Adobe Premiere. Thanks again. All of my client’s machines will now get a copy. Great stuff. Hope I can return the favor sometime.

Thanks for the info. I may try it out the next time I pare this machine to bare essentials — it’ll be soon, as it’s getting rather cluttered in here… Runs well — just cluttered. Like my desk…

    • in reply to: XP Home OEM (SP2) #949190

Yes, but you’d be much, much better off doing a clean installation of XP SP2 than an overlay. Windows ME wasn’t exactly known for its stability.

    • in reply to: Asparagus #949183

I didn’t mean to say that the asparagus should be marinated in Italian salad dressing. Oops. What I meant was that it should be drizzled over cold, cooked asparagus, and that the longer you let it sit before eating, the better it gets.

      Hey Samantha,
Jeez, now that you’re using that signature (the Lazarus Long quote), I’ll have to change mine! Great minds think alike, I guess… Nice to see someone still reads sci-fi classics.

      Tony,
Have you tried it out? If so, do you have an opinion?

    • in reply to: Asparagus #948288

I love asparagus, especially when served cold and marinated in Italian salad dressing. Yum…
