AskWoody LoungerThis machine needs Java, so I started looking at the installed programs and found two versions installed, both older than the current installing version. I removed both of these versions and installed the current version. I then uninstalled all IE updated versions, which left me with IE8, and it ran fine with no problems. I then installed IE11 and the problem was gone. I don’t know why, but am just thankful.
Restored to before the last IE update and problem gone.
The IE update to version 11.0.9600.17689 on 10/03/2015 seems to possibly have done it. No update no problem. updated problem back.
This has also seemed to cause more “Outlook 2013 Has stopped working” Outlook will restart.
That’s all fine but dammit I have just lost a long Email I was typing.
I am also dumping my office 2013 on home and 3 work PC’s and reinstalling Office 2010, anyone want 4 X Office 2013 going cheap. Has come up with a restarting problem after a “xxx has stopped working” message on all four machines we run it on since the day it was installed.
I recently spoke to someone who has gone back to Office 2007 as cant get 2010 anymore and wont use 2013, his office has over 30 systems running Office 2007 and 2010. another large user has moved all new machines to some version of Open Office.Hope the update info will help solving your problem as this did cause this problem on almost all our machines since the last IE update and on every machine running Office 2013. no problems occurred on system with auto updates switched disabled.

AskWoody LoungerBecause of changes in the way Microsoft distributes Windows setup files, all Windows 8 and Windows 7 users — and some Vista users — can now download copies of the full, free, official, 100 percent legitimate Windows install/setup files.
For the first time, Fred has really let us down. He said,”. . . . all Windows 8 and Windows 7 users — and some Vista users — can now download copies of the full, free, official, 100 percent legitimate Windows install/setup files. . . This article will show you where and how to obtain full, legitimate setup files for Vista, Win7, and Win8.”
In fact, it turns out that any Windows 7 owner who acquired it via a computer, rather than retail software, purchase is offered no advice. Greatly disappointed!!!
My wife’s Win 7 Pro 64 bit machine at work is down, Have her pro key but cant find her 64bit disk, need to download 7Pro 64 bit but my PC has Win 7 Ultimate and wont download with her Pro Key. so it seems it wont download your disk unless you download from the computer that the same key you use is present on the system you downloading from. I wish windows would make One Disk for all versions of windows 7 and the version installed from that disk is dependant on the KEY you enter when installing.
So as usual with Windows it is not made for any mission critical use, just have to do without her computer until I can get a win7 Pro disk with fully updated SP1. Do not want to spend time data costs to do all the update downloads. Have to remember in South Africa the internet is slow and our data is Capped and expensive. So downloading updates from her office could take days or even weeks. MS Office 2013 took three days to install, so on all the new machines they have gone back to 2007 using licences from discarded old PC’s as no 2010 licences sold anymore, or they must use open office, like most other people are doing. Looking forward to windows 10, hope no problems there, or Unix or Android here we come. -

AskWoody LoungerTry USB3
Leaving aside the theoretical maximum, I’m seeing about a gig per minute to a 64 gig flash drive and even faster to an external 500 gig SATA drive, which is curious as I would have thought the flash would have been faster.
Of course, if Thunderbolt finds its way onto PCs , then all this talk about 2x, 3x or 10x faster goes away. The problem is not the USB transfer rate, but the ability of the USB flash drive to write the incoming data and vice versa reading from the flash.
You will get faster transfers to a USB Hard Drive or SSD.
Try a Flash drive with a faster Read/Write speed. Class 4 is a bit slow, class 10 is better but there are a lot that are much faster.
Read your flash drives specs.
Hope this helps you. -

AskWoody LoungerJuly 24, 2013 at 4:18 pm in reply to: Outlook 2013 will not allow me to be the Administrator #1402809If you installed the application under username=Administrator then created a new user USER1 even with admin rights there will be some things you can not do as some installed files will have owner set to Administrator and not USER1.
It is a good thing to install all apps either as Administrator or on the account that is your main account on the computer and keep using that account to install all apps and do any changes to apps including the uninstalling of any.
It is good practice in my opinion to create an account called Administrator when installing Windows then after the install create a new account with your username and apply administrator rights to it. Log in as administrator only when you need to install apps or do system alterations, for normal use use your own account to work in.
Hope this helps
Sorry forgot to mention that when creating mail accounts be sure to do it in the user account you are creating the mail account for. -

AskWoody LoungerI do not like all the id theft but but am prepared to accept some of the marketing ploys. The ones that bug me are the ones we are not all aware of, or the information that leaves our machines. Some of the major culprits of privacy pirates are large companies like ADOBE Products that inform adobe about the personal information of your hardware, software on your computer, serial numbers of hardware parts, IP addresses, other computers on your private network and much more. like modifying your registry and altering other products on your computer without first asking your permision or warning you. Adobe also causes exessive network traffic to and from Adobe when starting a adobe application and in many cases causes extreme data costs to you, or as in South Africa where one has Data caps (limited data tranfers) it brings some smaller companies to a halt. Imagine 10 to 20 users of Adobe in a company and one finds out that the data uploaded and downloaded to adobe each day from every machine just for licence validation and updates is over 200 times their email data use and normal business use combined. It’s a crime!! and should not be allowed. As an IT profesional many users ask for their firewalls and Routers to be set up to prevent connection to adobe servers.
A secong point of interest and posibly a major factor in security against hackers fails is that this type of Licencing methods are exploited by hackers to gain access to a computer. Software writers leave backdoors for their access to a computer and its registry to protect their software and alow them to disable it or change registry entries, This is where the system fails hopelessly and gives untold loopholes in security. Hackers and identity theives use these doors to gain access to a computer and steal bank account details and passwords. What makes it so hillarious is the fact that most protected software can be hacked if one wants to hack it but the actual protection scheme used by most is the access point used by hackers to actualy pirate it.
Many people are giving up banking on the internet due to ID theft.
Knowing what I buy is not a problem, knowing what I like is not a problem neither is knowing where I go on vacation, but when I go is a problem as my residence is open for burglary in my absence. -

AskWoody LoungerStarup time with some good virus software can be affected by malware and other software on a system, so do your tests on a clean system.
Some virus infected systems will cause the antivirus software to attempt to remove it at system startup, so maybe this chaps system has got something wrong with it.
AV programs that do not detect some malware at startup could be quicker when malware is present.
Thanks to Widows Secrets for good ligic in their tests.
