• in reply to: CreateObject Function (VBA/Excel/2002-3) #1043724

Jan, my knowledge of VBA would be on a much higher level if I knew how to properly respond to your reply.

I do not know why early binding is indicated in the code I posted. Simply that I needed code to do something (create an object to allow me to send an XL sheet to a mail recipient) and that code was available after a brief search.

My posting was to alert others to the problem that surfaced on a client workstation and that was resolved by the addition of ‘localhost’ in the CreateObject function. Why? I do not have sufficeint experience to explain why.

But thanks for the heads up, now I have more research to do.

      Regards, Leigh

I would recommend this be elevated to Star Post inclusion please moderators.

All those years ago I struggled with the docking foibles of the VBE and here is how to do it! Thanks Jan Karel.

      Doc and Jerry

Thanks for your posts. Will explore both and report back early next week when on site.

    • in reply to: Not Searching Hidden Folders #1026682

Thanks Hans – I fear there is more to this as I can’t explain why it doesn’t exclude the hidden folders/files when the option “Search hidden files and folders” is not checked. It is as you described on my home PC but the networked one does not do as desired.

Does anyone know of network settings that may be controlling this, please?

I called it a tiara – but a quick check reveals that it should have been a crown or at the very least diadem, Your Highness

    • in reply to: IIF? usage (2000/All) #1003334

Many thanks Pat, Hans and Charlotte for your posts.

That did the trick – I had been ‘inadvertantly’ using VBA (because I didn’t know better).

And Charlotte, has your tiara always sparkled? I just noticed it now.

    • in reply to: IIF? usage (2000/All) #1003327

Thanks John for your post – but I am still experiencing the same problem.

It possibly is just obvious but what am I doing wrong please?

Great trick – I also discovered it by accident (but hadn’t tested it on other Office apps) when I was using FrontPage 2003 for creating http://www.thomsontrading.com.au

    • in reply to: Set Language dialog (2003/11.5516.6408) #980272

      Thanks for your reply, Jefferson

Well it is certainly is a different “language” but, of course, Windows XP being the robust OS that it is I didn’t need to reboot but simply closed the dialog, switched to some other application and then came back and opened a perfectly normal dialog showing as expected.

I don’t have or use a hex editor so I didn’t get to explore what any of it meant…

      But strange all the same.

      As always, many thanks Hans

      Enjoy your weekend.

    • I have always used the ability of the Task Bar to show the Desktop so that I can have quick access to other shortcuts that I store on the Desktop.
…it would be rare to minimize all windows just to stare at the desktop.
Not for me. For instance when I am writing manuals I often need to reference a different Microsoft application file to check a feature before finishing off on that feature so I use a right-click on the Task Bar to access the ‘Show the Desktop’ command and then open the relevant file (and application).

After that, I might (or might not) need to ‘Show open windows’ from the Task Bar, or simply click on the relevant button in the Task Bar to get back to the manual I am working in.

Tip (and a bit off subject – but it may be helpful): For any English language only Loungers, try copying and pasting unknown words into the following site, selecting (guessing) the language and click on Translate.

    • in reply to: Add data labels to XY scatter chart (XP/SP3) #952706

      Thanks, Hans

I had obviously looked at the contents of the Style drop-down, and like so many of the people I know, not looked outside the box. (I should try to be more creative ‘coz in so many ways working with MS products means finding a workaround.)

Of course this didn’t require a workaround, it was there all the time, but my blinkers were preventing me from looking outside the box…

    • in reply to: Add data labels to XY scatter chart (XP/SP3) #952702

Well I’ll be… That’s the best news since I woke up alive this morning.

How on earth did anyone find that?

    • in reply to: Add data labels to XY scatter chart (XP/SP3) #952428

      Thanks Steve for your response.

What version do you refer to? The attached is from Excel 2002/SP3 and I do not have a cross listed.

Is it from a later or earlier ver?
