This is a world wide problem. I’ve had at least 6 or 7 calls and my wife got one fortunately when I was home. The best way to handle this was carried out by a WindowsBBS forum member who kept the Asian talking on the phone for 30 minutes! He kept asking the Asian to repeat the question/instruction saying he couldn’t understand what was being said.
The conversation finally ended with the Asian guy blowing his cool and swearing over the phone. They do of course expect you to pay for their services and currently they ask in NZ for $60.00 to put a trojan/key logger/virus in your computer.
We have a whistle by the phone to blast and end the scam. Take care out there.

Hi, what Word are you using? I have MS Office 2003 and there is a Repair Facility available in Tools. I also have MS Office Professional 2007 in this comp running Vista Business and there is a Repair section under MS Tools called Diagnostic.
Doesn’t MS Word have a Diagnostic or Repair section? Cheers Neil.

What Anti-Virus System are you running? After a period Norton can hog your resources so badly that my comp took nearly 10 minutes to get to the desktop! I have since scrapped all Norton on my home PC’s and use Avast and MSE. I used Norton between 2002-2007 and since changing I have normal start up on all comps.
You would benefit from a larger HDD.

Hi, what Vista OS is your friend running? I’m using Vista Business and > Control Panel > Personalize > Themes > double click on your selection > Exit out. If his copy is not Genuine – he may have a problem.

    • in reply to: Can’t install MSE #1278106

Hi, as Joe suggested it’s not a good idea to run multiple AV’s. I’ve been using MSE on 3 home comps quite satisfactorily and can only suggest you remove AVG (unless you paid for it) and settle for MSE.
If you continue to run both – you will eventually have major problems and will have to do a fresh install of your OS.
Over the years I have tried AVG, Norton, McAfee, Avira and Avast and found Avast to be the least obtrusive. So far I’m quite happy with MSE. Cheers.

Hi, what XP SP are you running? If you have SP3, you will have no problem with your card as XP has all necessary drivers. The link you showed from your purchase time, shows a CD with drivers for the card. Did you run the CD?
