      If I type m3 (3 being superscript) in a table it changes to M3. If I select only the M, go to format, change case, and select lower case, it will keep lower case if using down arrow, right arrow, or tab.

      Hope this will work for you.

      Jezsik:

      Working now on Word 2000 but in 97 and now, I use Alt+W to get to window on menu bar where I could see 9 documents with arrow to see more then clicking a # to select the document I need. Not sure why you needed to open 2 sessions of Word to copy/paste, etc., but I don’t have a reason to have 2 sessions open.

      I guess the bottom line is you get used to something and hate that changed, but have to find another work around.

      Hi BAM,

      Yes, I do know about the Alt+Tab; however, I don’t use it much. Usually only have open 3 programs (e-mail, word, excel) but it is the 10+ Word documents that gets to me. I have my taskbar set up so that it will pop up above everything when cursor is in lower part of screen which is the way I change between programs.

      Thanks, Leanne

      Thanks BAM but I was hoping for a miracle. sad

      Being a keyboard person, I use Window on the menubar to switch between documents and having all docs open on taskbar just drives me crazy. At times I have 10+ documents open and when viewing on the taskbar, having only the Word logo show doesn’t do me much good.

      Guess I’ll just have to get used to it. Thanks!

      Hi Bam:

      Reloaded taskbar template to startup directory. Did File, New to try some of our office templates and here is what I found:

      On some of our templates, the first prompt for the user is to choose the office they are working in (choose from 20+ offices). If the user doesn’t choose an office, it will let them proceed in filling out the remaining prompts but when clicking OK will not allow them to go further until an office is chosen. If an office is chosen, it seems like when using any of these documents, they work OK. BTW, most (but not all) of these templates are set to protect after user enters “prompt” info and clicks OK.

      Some of the templates that are not protected after user info is entered don’t ask for office location and these in turn are the documents that kick me out.

      Some of the templates prompt user for info (without asking for office location) and after clicking OK, the info is filled in the “form” and the form is then protected. These also kick me out.

      A couple of the templates are just protected forms not prompting for any info – these also work fine (no macros through VBA).

      In some of the templates there is the following macro. I deleted it from one of the templates (Addendum) and retried it but it didn’t work so I put it back in.

      Sub View()
      If ActiveWindow.View.SplitSpecial = wdPaneNone Then
      ActiveWindow.ActivePane.View.Type = wdPageView
      Else
      ActiveWindow.View.Type = wdPageView
      End If

      End Sub

      Again, if you’d like, I can attach a template or two. I hope this isn’t getting too confusing! One other thing. I have a shortcut (Control+Alt+W) that I use to open Word. After getting kicked out, this shortcut will not work until I double-click Word icon on desktop and close all open documents. If I close out Word and come back in, my shortcut keystrokes work.

      This is a template (form) I created for our office standards. The template works with an “AutoNew” macro that brings up a forms box created through VBA prompting user to fill in 6 boxes that when OK is clicked, the info from those 6 boxes will be put into the form. The user then proceeds to complete the form. These forms were created in 1997 and worked fine up until I added the macro for the taskbar.

      No, I have not tried a downloading a new template. After the 2nd time I was kicked out, I realized it must be something to do with the taskbar template. I went to my startup directory and renamed the taskbar template a document. I then went back to Word, file, new, picked the template I needed and everything worked fine.

      I have had 2000 for about 3 weeks now and didn’t have a problem with any of my templates until I loaded the taskbar template (which I downloaded last week). I’ll try reloading the taskbar template and using another one of the templates I created to see if it is a problem for all my templates or just a select few.

      If it will help, I can attach my template (if I can get it to attach) but I’m not sure how to strip my company information off of it.

      Thanks

      Running Word 2000, NT 4.0

      I noticed the same thing this morning using a company template. When going File, New to bring up the template, there are 6 boxes I am asked to fill in. When I hit the OK key, Word shuts down. I restarted Word and did the same thing again, only to have the program close again. Once again, I restarted Word, went to Window on the menu bar, and I had 8 open documents.

      I tried looking at macros in Soldaat’s template (which I run as a global template in my startup directory) and couldn’t figure out what was causing the problem. At that point, I deleted the template from my startup directory; however, I can’t stand having all the open documents on my taskbar.

      Any suggestions?

    • in reply to: Tables of Authorities (Word 2000/Windows NT 4.0) #541220

      I’ve been checking back a few times a day to see if anyone has a reason for this since it has been happening to me also. Finally decided to look into it here and what I found is:

      When generating a TOC using index/tables and building TOC off of styles used, it would insert in the code “h z t …” at the beginning. This would put in extra tab characters that wouldn’t allow page numbers to right align, along with making TOC2-TOC9 lines all hyperlinks (instead of just the number). I would then have to go to each wrong line and re-apply my TOC style to it. In checking my TOC that worked fine in Word 97, my code began only with “t …”. I built a new TOC by using fields, checking all of the ? characters. I ended up with the code “w t …”. The “w” code preserved what I put in the style and did not add anything extra.

      Hope this helps.

      Have the user run a virus scan. This happened to my normal (and others in our office) when there was a virus in it.

      If you save the document with the zoom set at what you want, the next time document is opened it will open to “saved” zoom setting.

      Ray-

      If you select the paragraph symbol under the first line, go to Format, Borders/Shading and select none, it will take out that line. For the bottom line, anywhere on the page, go to Borders/Shading, click on “Page Border” tab and select none.
