I was able to set up the document as follows:

      Set your margins to be T=1, B=.75, L=1, R=.75.
Set the first page up to be “different first page” for headers.
Go into the header (first page header section 1) and create a blank text box 9.75″ high x 1.5″ wide. Set it so text wrapping is “square” with 0 spacing on left/right.
Position the text box at 0 from left margin and 0 from top margin.
      Close out of the header.

When typing text, it will wrap on the right side of text box (2.5″) and when adjusting to second page, it will be at left margin.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

      Geoff –

If I understand you correctly, you want to copy the “Cell Height and Width” command to all table options when right clicking. If so, go to “View, Toolbars, Customize”. Scroll down to “Shortcut Menus” and left click on “Table”. Left click on any of the dropdowns to see if it listed there. If so, click once on “Cell Height and Width” and then while pressing Control key and left mouse button at the same time, drag it to all dropdowns you want it added to.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

    • in reply to: Disappearing drop-down list selections (2000/SR-1) #547306

      Hi Phil –

I did get it added to my toolbar right after I read the post thi morning, tried it out on one of my templates and it works GREAT. Then I made the decision not to include it as a toolbar on our office templates for 700+ employees. I realize it would be nice for some people, but another toolbar popping up on someone’s screen, well…is it worth all the calls I’d get asking what it’s for? I don’t think so. Until someone calls me with a question as to why they lost everything, I’ll keep the gem to myself.

      Thanks again,

      Phil –

The macro is just what I’ve been looking for. So many times, people in other offices have called me because they reprotect document and loose everything they have put in. Now I have to figure out how to add it to a toolbar to keep it with template.

      Thanks, Leanne

    • in reply to: Can’t remove (hidden) page breaks (Word 97 SR 2) #547199

      John –

Not sure if this problem has been solved yet, but by viewing your attachment I found that by moving down (control+down arrow) to the last paragraph marker on first page, then down 1 more time, cursor is lost. If you put the “normal” style to that, your page break and section break will show up, allowing them to be deleted.

Also, by moving down to the last paragraph marker then 1 more time when cursor gets lost, go to format, frame and click remove bottom. This selects the page break and section break and by pressing delete key, it gets rid of them and moves 2nd page to first.

FWIW, this has happened to me before also in Word documents that I have created. Very frustrating!

      Hi –
I had the person check templates and addins – no global templates added. No COM add-ins either.

If the person selects Help on the Help menu, that works. However, if she presses F1, she gets “MS Word Cannot Display Help. This feature is not currently installed. Would you like to install now?” confused

I asked her to have the person that did “complete” install twice to reinstall the help only, if that is possible.

    • in reply to: Letterhead template won’t stay put (2000) #1788713

Is the letterhead in a text box along the left side? If so, move from the first page to the header and set wrapping to right side only. Set up the page setup to be different first page. You will then be allowed to set your margins at what you want and when it goes to the 2nd page, your margins will be where you want them.

Is the main part of your letterhead (running down left side) on preprinted paper or is it in your actual template?

    • in reply to: Function Keys Don’t Work (2000 SR-1) #543010

There is a person is one of our offices whose Control keys (F1-F12) are not working. She said that Word has been re-installed and they are still not working.

Any suggestions I could give her? No Word Perfect help options checked. I’m not sure where else to look.

      Thanks,
      Leanne

      Patricia –

I checked the show function keys on my machine – just displayed them at the bottom of my screen. In doing a search for “function keys” in help, I realized they are function keys, not control keys.

Still looking for a solution …

I had her open excel – F7 and F12 both work in there.

I’ll have her check language – and unless you get a BIG thanks from me, any other suggestions are more than welcome.

    • in reply to: Function Keys Don’t Work (2000 SR-1) #543016

I had her check – the only one I had her check was F12 (save as). Scrolling down, F12 was the shortcut; however, she closed out of customize window, I told her to do F12. She got the following:

“MS Word cannot display help. This feature is not currently installed. Would you like to install now.”

I then verified with her – a complete install has been done twice on her machine – but keys are still not working.

      Any other suggestions?

Remembering back to my high school days in early 80’s – the NEW computers at school were Radio Shack TRS-80’s. Boy, were those great and fast, seeing as I learned how to type on an electric typewriter! Now I feel granny!

      Beryl –

Thanks for the suggestions. After reading BAM’s comments, I have been trying all morning to start using Alt+Tab to switch between documents – ARGH, disabling by taskbar from popping up. I have been told it takes 21 days to get used to doing something differently, only 20-1/2 left to go! Don’t know if I can make it that long. The more clutter I can get rid of the better.

      Thanks to all for comments.
