I am assuming you are putting your appendices at the end of the document. My report template has 4 different numbering outlines and works great.

You can set up the actual report so that Chapter # is set for a style (and any additional levels needed). Where the appendices start, you can start a new outline (using Heading 1, etc. if you need to have the footer in the appendix A-1, B-1, etc). What I do is figure out my numbering needed for the report portion and set up the numbering needed and linking it to the style preferred. I then do the same with the appendices. (I also have 2 different numberings for tables and figures, which in my template is between the report portion and the appendices)

Are you talking about adding it so that when you right click within the table it will show up there?

      Billy:

I learned this from 1-day training. I’m not sure if it is covered in Woody’s books or not. About the grid, I’m not sure where that came from and as you can see, I couldn’t get it in the 2nd template.

      Billy:

I have set up your template 2 different ways. The first one is with form text fields with document being protected allowing you to tab through to fill in desired information. The second is more automated that when document is opened, it will prompt you for information which is then filled in wherever referenced. I wasn’t sure where exactly you wanted text to be inserted so if you want the text to show up under the message header label, select gray-shaded box, cut it, and paste it to where you want it. Don’t cut one field and paste to many different spots and each text field is referencing a different thing.

Take a look and see if this is what you are looking for. Detach them both to where your templates are located and use “File, New” to see how they work.

I have been trying to do the duplex printing using the macros provided in previous thread. When I print the sample .dot, that prints fine; however, when I print what I need to print (47 pages, which I am assuming gets changed to 48 when playing macro), my first page starts printing on left side of page instead of right. It prints pages 1-12, 36-end, 13-14, 35-34, etc. I realize that using the macro I cannot have different page numbering starts; does that include section breaks also? After page 36, I have a new page section break and then start my appendix listing with 6 pages after that each starting with a new page section break.

Is there any way you can help me determine what is going on? Also, company would like to send this to copy today (back to back) and I’ve been struggling with it since yesterday afternoon.

      Thanks,

Here’s a “normal” template (actually it is now a .doc because I couldn’t attach a .dot file) I created using courier for normal style and headings 1-9. In scrolling down through the style box and each style, the “character preview” box shows all fonts to be courier with the exception of “default paragraph font” which shows up as times new roman. However, when I type any information, no where does times new roman show up.

Whomper, try this normal out and see what happens. Again, post back as to when your text automatically switches over to TNR.

I, including others, have asked for a sample document to look at to see what is going on. How about creating a sample document and attaching it? You may think that will not help but it certainly can’t hurt.

If you go into the style, you can adjust your left margin to .6 or so.

      To expand on this:

If you follow Linds directions and have changed your styles in Normal.dot, you can revise styles in existing documents by going to Format, Style, Organizer. When the Organizer box comes up, on the right side are the styles in your Normal.dot. You can select all styles and click the “copy” box in the middle and click “yes” when box comes up questioning if you want to replace all styles. Click close on the organizer box and you styles in document should be revised to what is in your Normal.dot.

Could you attach a document to show what is happening because what you have said so far makes no sense whatsoever.

      Lucas:

I was able to get it to work in a table. When I typed the number in the number box, I typed 123456789 and clicked ok. When double clicking on the form box, it opened with hyphens in box. No, you can’t set length to 9; however, you can set it to 11.

I’m attaching what I was able to do.

To change the font, go to format, style, double click on “normal” and edit the font from there. You cannot change it in DEFAULT PARAGRAPH.

    • in reply to: fixing normal.dot (95 97 98 2000) #1789784

Could you close Word, delete your normal.dot, then restart Word to have a new one load?

    • in reply to: Field for SSN (Word 2000) #550185

      Lucas:

From the forms toolbar, insert a “text form field”. Double-click on it and set the type to “number”. In the “number format” box, type in ### – ## – #### (however, don’t use any spaces, just # and hyphens).

      Lucas:

I’m assuming all your different levels are set up using styles. If you are on 2nd level, item c, go to “Format, Style, Modify, and select “Style for Following Paragraph” to be a,b,c (or whatever you called the style). To move forward a level, use “Tab” key at beginning of line. To move backward one level, use “Shift+Tab” key.

      Hope this helps.
