AskWoody PlusHi Susan,
You wrote: “I suspect the one-year consumer plan is intended as a bridge to Windows 11.”
I am a devoted win 10 user, but… With win 10 going towards NeverNeverLand I assume that many win 10 users, like me, consider transition to win 11.
Over the last years I’ve seen many articles dealing with how to ‘soften’ the transit.
Can you at Ask Woody refer us readers to articles, in and out of Ask Woody to those that you believe would be most helpful?
thank you

Shalom,
What is Ask Woody’s recommendation? Is this an exempt from Defcon 2?

AskWoody PlusI had an upper edge Toshiba laptop (I don’t remember the exact type) and after a few years I replaced the original 512GB ssd with a 1TB Samsung evo. When I had to throw away the then broken laptop, I kept both ssd’s, installed them in external cases with proper USB 3.0 interface. and I use them as external storage. I just checked them using ClearDiskinfo (Thanks Ben Myers and Older Geeks) and both disks are in excellent condition (98% and 96% lifetime remaining).
I think they’ll outlive me…1 user thanked author for this post.

AskWoody PlusShalom again, Susan,
I ran both Dism … restore health and sfc /scannow, I still cannot install. when I (re)tried “Windows10Upgrade9252.exe” I received a debug window saying: “Line: 68 Error: Access is denied.” the built in debugger didn’t solve the issue.
Any suggestion, besides avoiding the issue or a complete windows reset?yours,
Yaakov Laks -

AskWoody PlusThanks again, Susan,
I tried this already and was prompted to a full reset.
At the “Choose what to keep” page, the only choice was “Nothing”. Both “Keep…” alternatives were grayed out.
I am trying more DISM repair options and I’ll inform you on the results.yours

AskWoody PlusShalom Susan,
8007000d persists despite some changes I made to the registry.
The Policies/windows update key had only 2 strings, namely: (default) – (value not set) and DisableWindowsUpdateAccess – value 0.
I added ProductVersion – windows 10; TargetReleaseVersion – value 1
and TargetReleaseVersioninfo – 21H2. Restarted, tried backup received the 8007000d.
I have the 21H2 iso.
The media I used were; 1. Windows10Upgrade9252.exe
and 2. windows10.0-kb5011487-x64_2190163dcb84974d93ecdc32bdae277b57ebb95c.msu
What can I do next?

AskWoody PlusThanks, Susan
I downloaded the ISO directly from Microsoft, tried “repair” then received “the software was not installed”. I have not yet looked at the proper registry command.
Will do it in a few hours and let you know.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 12, 2022 at 3:26 pm in reply to: The surprising truth about ultra-cheap Microsoft Office #2477272Thanks Susan Bradley,
- How can I know if it is legit or not?
- How come MS don’t take action against this would be fraud?
And… something else, I am a “devote” follower of your recommendations in your Patch Lady “mission”.

AskWoody PlusI have been using Soluto for some time (about one year, or longer). It shows me which programs delay startup and lets me choose wht to do.
It also “tells” me if a program stops and sometimes what the reason is and what the proper solution is.
I fully recommend it.
Download here and I swear that I have no connections whatsoever with softonic (the producers).

AskWoody PlusShalom Fred and everybody,
I have added MSE as soon as it was released. After some time and some tests I uninstalled first Avast and then AVG (I kept both running as a double security measure). Operation improved dramatically. I did try Avira some time ago, and let it go to neverneverlands.
I still hang on to Ad-Aware and once a while I do a fine combing with malwarebytes, hardly find anything suspicious.A suggestion, instead of using your manual stopwatch, try using Soluto.
Worth also to be recommended at Windows Secrets.
