    • in reply to: register win2K pro/change user info #678407

no, mark, i don’t like being “User”; it makes me sound as though…. well, maybe i shouldn’t go there. thanks for the word on how to change that info. now all i have to do is get up the nerve to mess with the registry. that may take a few days.

wanted to let you know that i finally found an address to register by mail. this is good for all microsoft products, so please feel free to tuck it away in your obscure information file. here it is: Microsoft Registration; P.O. Box 72368; Roselle, IL 60172. these are the items of info that need to be included: first and last name; mailing address; phone number; e-mail address; product name and version; and product ID (which i take to mean the product key). this is to be used when you can’t register on-line and the yellow product registration card is nowhere to be found (as in my case).

i found this out by breaking down and calling microsoft customer service. fortunately, i did not have to use one of my two free allowed calls. the nice person on the other end of the phone gave me the info, and told me that it exists only on the internal knowledge base. great place to put it for those of us that need it. hairout i hope that this helps someone else who may be in my position.

once again, thanks for your help. look for me again if i get scared of the registry. take care!

    • i also forgot to mention that, when i started to set up the folder, i was asked if i wanted to archive my older messages. since i had no idea what was involved with that, i told the program no. don’t know if that has/had anything to do with the error messages. sorry that i forgot to mention it before, but i just remembered it a few minutes ago. thanks again for your help. take care and God bless.

    • no, i do not have an exchange server account.

if i understand your question correctly, i set up a new personal folder from within outlook. to set up the folder, i used File, New, Personal Folders File (.pst)… . from there, i gave the folder a name, then a password, then i tried to open it, and got the error message that i posted.

i have had outlook installed for quite some time (over three years), and used it once before for e-mail when i had prodigy as my ISP, but found it inconvenient, so i just deleted all the folders and e-mail accounts, ignored it and went back to OE. as i said before, i decided to use it since i have it, and got messed up the very first time i tried anything out of the ordinary. i’m not even quite sure what my settings are, as i do not know where to look, but i do know that i answered your first question correctly.

hope i have answered your questions. if not, please keep on posting, and i will keep on answering. thanks for your time and your help. until the next time, take care and God bless.

    • in reply to: Downloading the whole SR-1a (2000) #664635

i used to have that problem when i had a dial-up ISP (we finally got DSL {wish we had cable access!}just to keep that from happening). i found that the only way to keep the ISP from disconnecting during a download was to make sure that i was with it, doing “page turns.” then, and only then (usually), did the download not get disconnected. it was definitely a pain, though. maybe you could keep an eye out for the time, and when it gets near to “disconnect” time, you could sit with the ‘puter, working on your e-mail, or maybe doing some research or whatever, thus tricking the thing into thinking that you’re doing something, and make it not disconnect. yes, i know that’s confusing reading, but it’s the only way i know to ‘splain it. i sure hope that you find a way to get your downloads done in time; there’s nothing more frustrating than spending all that time on a download, only to have it disconnect just before it’s finished. i wish you well.

nope, not here. no problems with aol im at all. only im problem i have is with msn messenger. i try to close it and get told that i can’t because there are other programs that are using some of the same resources (not exact words, but the idea is there), so it sits there, with a little X through the icon, just brooding. hope you figure out what’s going on with your aol im. i’m sure that someone here will be able to help you. between all the nice people here, they know just about everything!!! clever i wish you well in your quest.

    • in reply to: Lost Attacments in OE 6 (OE 6) #634081

Cyberdance has the right of it. i had the same thing happen to me when i upgraded from IE5.5 to 6.0. it very sneakily changed the settings for my e-mail in OE. i lost all the attachments on both old mail and new, incoming mail. i frantically wrote here and got a very quick answer, pretty much the same that Cyberdance gave you. as soon as i went in and unchecked that little box, all my attachments came right back to where they belonged. don’t know about you, but i intensely dislike it when microsoft does something that they think is “best” for me. the rest of my comment is best censored at this point. let me make up my own mind (such as it is)! smile

    • in reply to: IE6 problem, major one to me. Help, please!!! (IE 6) #628628

oh, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, R2!!! i am so grateful to you for this. joy i was at a complete loss, and didn’t know what to do, just in case you couldn’t tell… it’s the little simple things that make or break life, so it seems. i just took a look at my e-mails, and all the attachments are back where they belong. i guess this will teach me not to hold my stuff for too long. i just hate to bombard my friends with stuff daily; i prefer to edit it down to only the really good stuff, and send it once a week or so. i hate all the begats, so i clean everything up, which i think everyone should do, but that’s a whole ‘nother board. once again, thanks. you deserve a trophy, so here’s one for you… trophy. have a great day. take care and God bless.
